Does any one know where to buy the inserts that go in the top of the convertable frame they are 2 different sizes I ordered them and they are not correct as seems to be with alot of aftermarket stuff I think they are called tack strips thanks for any help Matt.

I'm going through this now as well. I just removed all the original tack strip material out of the bows and will need to find replacements.

The short tack strips on the ends of the center bows were 1/2" x 1/2". Then the ends were put in a press and smashed together to hold the tack strip in place. That basically changes the width to 3/8" at the top but the bottom is still 1/2". I think the only thing I can do is glue some 3/8" stuff back in. I searched E-bay just to see what sizes are available. I did find some 1/2" x 1/4". I wonder if that would work for the rear bow? I'd just have to glue two pieces together.

What are you planning on using to attach them? Glue? If so, what kind? I also thought about letting the upholstery shop that will put the top on, pick whatever tack strip they wanted since they have more experience than me.

My side tack strips weren't that bad but the factory installed them before painting the bows. I could see rust showing on the sides so I wanted to clean it all out and paint it before installing new one. You can kind of see how the ends were smashed together to hold the tack strip in place.

I had same problem trying to find. The top guy said dont worry, he can find the right size. So I just broke out the old petrified stuff and cleaned up and painted. He did find the right material and he riveted them in place.

How were they rivited? Are the rivits visible or are they all on the inside? Any pictures of it?

My original tack strip was stapled in place...somehow. It was stapled into the metal but the top of the staple wasn't visible from the top.

I'm at Carlisle now, car isn't here. I will take some photos when I get home.

Well whatever he did isn't visible now from the interior. This was like 5 years ago, so maybe my memory is failing me, but I recall some sort of rivet in the material. I am thinking it was to expand the material and wedge it in the track?
Any old time convertible top guy should know. He wasn't phased by this,so probably something they are used to.
Are you planning on doing this yourself? If yes, then you are more daring then I. He had a hell of a time installing my top making it fit well with no wrinkles in the C-pillar. Not something I wanted to tackle.

No, I'm not going to attempt it. A man has to know his limitations. I'm cleaning up the frame right now and repainting it so if there was a correct replacement tack strip available I'd install it now. I have no problem waiting and talking to a shop about what they prefer to use.
