I saw the ad late last saturday night, talked to the seller sunday morning, hit the road right away and drove 11 hours to see it monday morning. The seller said on the phone that it has mostly sat for the last 8 years but runs and drives nice. But when he started it for me, gas was squirting out the vent hole on the fuel pump. So I bought it without driving it, rented a Uhaul open trailer and hauled it home. Fins, bling, dual quad Hemi, and a folding top. I don't think I could have found a better car to represent the 50's in my collection. The new fuel pump from Rock Auto should be here tomorrow.

Wow, that is insanely awesome.. an icon of Virgil Exner's styling skills, and a benchmark of Mopar heritage.. That is a bucket list car for sure..
When I became hooked on Mopars and started buying books about them at Waldenbooks, I got some great history books covering each and very modelyear of production from beginning up to 1979.

The Forward Look cars quickly became a favorite era of Mopars.. The DeSotos were a class all by themselves..
I believe the Adventurer is the top of the line, with the Sportsman and Fireflite as the next tiers of trim and price.
I love the dual antennas on back - I think only Adventurers got those.

Very cool .. and Congratulations!

There are roughly 30 of these left from 57. They're incredibly cool cars. I had to trade the one I had plus cash to get the 72 Demon from Todd. I have another in restoration now, no clue if it will ever get finished.

Enjoy the car, you'll almost always be the only one wherever you go. Always fun to show people how the exhaust exits.

I remember pumping gas into a 1957 Desoto hardtop car like yours (same colors) that a older lady drove to work every day, that was in 1963. She sold it or traded it in on another Desoto later that year on a black hardtop 1961 with the wedge motor with inline dual quads dual quads up
I should have learned more from her on why she liked those big Mopar cars back then, but I didn't realcrazy

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

The new fuel pump showed up from RockAuto. It looks different, it doesn't have the glass sediment bowl underneath. I suppose I'll put it on there, it will probably do the job. I haven't had time to do anything with it yet, hopefully tomorrow night!

Beautiful car and I bet after diving it (hopefully trouble free) it will take a while to wipe the smile off your face. up

Well, I took it for a test drive tonight and have a to-do list. The driver's side visor won't stay up, the blinkers aren't working, only one tail light on each side works, and the outside rear view mirrors need to be tightened up so they stay aimed properly. Nothing to major. It does drive nice, it's pretty fun to tool around in with the top down!

"Sportsman" was DeSoto's way of saying "hardtop." The models from bottom to top were:

Firesweep
Firedome
Fireflite
Adventurer
