I sold my Duster in 2018 to a private buyer in Delaware for just a tick over 30K - it was a really nice car, cost me 40K to build

He got rid of it within a few months - no idea why, he initially told me he really liked the car shruggy

I found his ad and he wasn't asking any more than he paid me for it

Eventually a dealer in Ohio contacted me, he bought it from the guy in Delaware - he wanted me to help him "fix" the title, since the guy in Delaware never titled it - I told him no, that's your problem

He must have fixed the title, because I found it for sale on his website for - $49K

It sat there for for a while, then disappeared - I then found it for sale at a different "exclusive" dealer website in Ohio - Marshall Goldman - asking $69K

Duster for sale

It sat there for a while, then I found it on the Mecum website for sale at their Kissimmee auction - sold for $62K (buyer paid $68K with commission) - skip to 4:18 on the video

Duster at Mecum

Not sure - but the bidding seemed a little fishy - went up really quick

Anyway - just goes to show you, I would NEVER consider buying a collector car from a dealer or an auction!!!

Any dealer that doesn't know the value of "and or" shouldn't be a used car dealer. One more thing, my local DMV employees went above and beyond any time I had such a problem.

July 19th should be "Drive Like Rockford Day". R.I.P. Jimmie.

Whatever happened to that dealership that was on the east side, like on Van Dyke? I think his name was Sonny xxxxxx. Only other thing I can remember was his gf was half his age.

There was a lot on Gratiot near 14 mile Road for awhile back around 1999 / 2005 that sold classics. Don’t know if he’s still there since I moved to Tennessee in 2007.

I moved from Detroit in 01. I remember they once had that no-option '68 RR that once appeared in MCG. Also had a '68 Pontiac 2+2 convertible with a 427.

That was Showdown Auto Sales on Gratiot in Clinton Twp. It's been gone for sometime but there is another Showdown that is in Fraser. I talked to the guy at the Fraser Showdown a few years ago and asked if it was the Gratiot dealer relocated to Fraser. I don't remember exactly what he said but there was some family connection to Sonny but Sonny had moved I believe he said to Florida.

Thanks you are correct. I couldn’t remember the name.

This is not correct.

Leroy Simpson was never the owner. He started out as a buyer for Southern Motors when Vern was the owner. When Vern passed the inside sale guy, David took over & Leroy became the inside sales guy.

Leroy started the Michigan Mopar Muscle Car Club while he was an employee there but is no longer involved with either the club or the dealership, but both were successful while he was there.

Thanks for this Jon. I was tempted to point this out as well.
