of the 250 or so made , how many true survivors are out there? how about with a 4 speed and a shaker hood ? it seems like any 71 shaker is a super low production car .. so , 440-6 or hemi equipped and a shaker must be super rare ? would like to learn all i can about these cars...thanks !

I have a 71 V code Challenger 4 speed, not a shaker car though. Pretty close to your October VIN iirc.
I’ve never seen any registry of them. There aren’t too many around that’s for sure!
Floyd here owns a blue shaker example that might be unrestored. A friend of mine was restoring a purple one with shaker which he didn’t quite finish and had to sell for financial reasons. Lots of restoration mistakes on it sadly.
I remember an orange one with orange stripes with shaker.
Tim Wellborn has a restored barn find condition one, I don’t recall if it’s a shaker.
If you wanted to see a survivor 71 Challenger you should have gone to Mecum Indy last month. Tom Lembecks survivor hemi 71 was there on display.

Mine was restored in the early 90s. It’s an early car (Sep) sold new at Mr. Norms. V-code, Super Track Pack, N96. I have the original order sheet with rubber bumpers checked off but for whatever reason the car was not delivered with them. Moparts member “Morty”, who hasn’t posted in awhile, has an orange 71 v-code N96 Challenger with rubber bumpers. I think that one is done now.

Travis Mai built a Challenger N96 registry. As of 2017, looks like there are about 30 v-code 71 Challengers listed there which is a pretty high percentage IMO.

You say the order sheet had the rubber bumpers checked off but not delivered with them. What did the broadcast sheet say about the bumpers ?

Interesting looking at the 70 & 71 registry for shaker cars. I remember going with my Dad to look at a local Detroit area 1970 440-6 Challenger that was B5 with white interior. It had the standard scooped hood, but the guy who was the original owner said he had ordered it with the shaker, but the car arrived at the dealer with a letter from Chrysler stating "due to production problems, the shaker hood is not available at this time." He showed us the letter. We did not buy the car - my Dad thought the car had been submerged in water because it smelled very musty. Guy took us for a ride in it - open headers. I'll never forget that.

Not on the Broadcast sheet either. The Order Sheet had had “Not on S.O.” written next to that block. In short, the car didn’t come with them. They were added during restoration. I still think it’s cool that I have the Norm’s paperwork showing they were ordered/desired. I’ve always wondered what prevented them from being included at the factory.

I was able to open the spreadsheet posted in the registry link posted above. It acts strange however and took multiple attempts.

The reason I ask is my 71 June built GTX has the code on the BC sheet but the car was delivered without them. It was built 6/71.
I wonder if the vendor was having issues getting them to the plants.

I like to record 71 challenger vin's just for the heck of it. Weirdly enough, its been easier to find Hemi vins than six pack vins despite far fewer being made. I've got 32 of the Hemi cars vs just 24 six packs (out of 744 total vins). For some reason 71 six pack challengers are just harder to find. 198 slant sixes are the hardest to find though (only have 3 of 'em).

Not a survivor or a six pack car but it is a shaker car. Was able to track this one down several months back with help here (sixpakdodge posted a link that led me to the car and 73DAD alerted me to a race prep bill from Barnett. up ). Current owner told me only 59 Hemi's with 4 spd's were built in '71 of which only 6 were shaker cars.
