I've finally entered the 21st century and started using the phone for something besides phone calls. One app I've started using in an attempt to avoid card skimmers is the shell app. It's pretty handy and easy to use. It also lets you see the surrounding stations and navigate to whichever one you pick when you select the directions key. However, my phone offers only two options, the galaxy store and google play store, no other option is offered. I'd like to associate google maps or waze with it but can't figure out how to do it? Any ideas?

See the following video @ 19 seconds for how it's supposed to work.

Do you have Google maps installed on your phone? If not it's directing you to the Playstore to install it?

Yep, got google maps, came with the phone. So far:

1. I tried setting Waze as the default navigation app, says no default set, all the options to do so are greyed out.
2. Same deal with google maps, says no default set, options greyed out just like Waze.
3. Removed and reinstalled Shell app, NO change.

I get two options when I ask the Shell app for routing, galaxy store and play store. If I select play store, it takes me straight to google maps and asks if I want to launch it.
It doesn't matter how many times I do it, I still get play store and google maps.

Thinking about removing and reinstalling Waze (or maybe google maps?) to see if that makes a difference, maybe on reinstall it'll give me an option to set it as default? I doubt it. shruggy

I know it's first world problems but I like for things to work right. Google hasn't offered up any solutions I found useful.

I REALLY don't want to get into rooting the damned thing.

I'm no genius with these things, but a couple things come to mind,
- Is your "location" turned on?
- Did you set your "home" as a location? Not sure that would matter, but maybe it needs/wants a reference point.

As far as apps go, I usually just google "waze app" (for example) and go from there.
My 2 cents: these things can be frustrating, so be patient and don't be afraid to ask a kid. They know everything about these contraptions...

Follow up

1. I found google maps cannot be uninstalled, only disabled.
2. I uninstalled Waze, tried shell again, no change, galaxy and play store are the only options (at that point, google maps was the only navigation app installed)
3. I reinstalled Waze, no option to set as default, same deal as above, all options to set a default navigation are greyed out
4. I tried Shell AGAIN, NO CHANGE, galaxy and play store are the only options.

I'm not going to root the phone, far too much trouble for an annoyance, and I don't know any kids...

All done unless something else comes to me.
