I was looking a K frame @ E Town this weekend that had the rounded skid plate & no coin on it,the date code stamped on front is 2174 0 the vender selling it said it fits 71/74 B & E,has the 2 idler arm brackets & 2 holes in front lip for sway bar brackets couldn't recall what to look for @ the time for the later sway bar mounting & pass through holes.what year would this be based on the date code.

Its the 217 day of 1974 if i am reading the date code correct

Definitely is not 71-4 b-body as there is no such thing. 71-2 b-body bolts directly to the frame and 73-4 b-body uses an isolator bushing k-member.

That's right I forgot about the 73/74 being a isolated K frame which it wasn't, 217 74 is what I was thinking but didn't make sense,can a 74 still have a skid plate,wouldn't 74 also have spool type motor mounts or did that start later.

Yes, 73- A and B bodies have spool type mounts.
If production date is correct, it could be from an E body.
Or I guess a replacement part could have dates even later than '74.
The Kit Car program was using E body K members "till the program ended.
And yes, the E body Ks are the same as '71-2, Bs.

Could a 72 up E body K still have a skid plate it looked factory installed to me.

E-body never had spool mounts.

OK this is really strange,checked the date code on the K frame in my 71 GTX today I suspected it has been replaced has no skid plate,the damm date code is the same exact as the one I started this post for way back in 2017, 217 40 cant make this s#@t up,so now I know its not original.

K frames with the skid plates where for the hemi cars. Not sure if the k frames where actually date coded but believe they have part #'s. They reproduce the skid plates so someone could weld one on and try to pass it off for original. The originals i seen had factory welds and scrapes from it hitting the asphalt.

1970 - 1972 B & E-bodies with 440HP, 440+6 & HEMI all used a k-frame with a skid plate
