Bob, What keeps me from racing every week is what ails a lot of us, age and health. At damn near 70, with health issues and a one man band now that the kids are raising families, I simply do not have the energy to do what I once did. I don't even WANT to do that anymore. And, to my friend John, I sure don't need to be hanging out at any Pizza Parties! LOL
Look, today's bracket wars are intense, physically demanding, and I think populated by the best drivers in all of motorsports. Including at the local level. I get that. We run the Nostalgia program up at Keystone, and it is well attended, but it's a little different cat. Some seem to resent us being there, but I will tell you, our guys don't WANT to play the super intense game, they want to row their four speeds and run a quarter mile. They are happy if they can just make a couple of passes. I know that is how I am in my old age.
The point of the question is this....I have a lot of those 8th mile big money races on You Tube all the time, they televise them weekly. I know all the stuff about the seat time, running the number, and I get that. And, I do know a bigger car can be VERY consistent. But, it is obvious that the guys who win those run very similar equipment. small light cars, glides...even the Fords and Mopars who win run that combo. You never see old sixties muscle cars, leaf springs and all, in the end rounds unless it's kind of a flukey deal. The win guys all run similar stuff. Light, small cars with glides. My pal John (Pittsburgh Racer) won a lot of races in the old days with a 440 torqueflite in a Duster with Super Stock springs. Tough racer, good guy. Still is. But, now it's a lighter car, a small block, and a glide. That is just fine, but there HAS to be a reason. That's why I ask.
