Can't find any info online, so can the BG 400 fuel pumps be used on street car? Thought that they may only be for short term use like drag only cars.

Never heard of a BG500 pump, but have experience with the BG400 many years ago. The 400 was fine at the track, but on the street (for longer drives) it would get super hot, and the pump shaft seal would leak, then burn-up. If you’re planning to run one on the street consider using the BG step-down box (if you can find one). I repaired the pump, sold it. From then on I’ve only run MagnaFlow/MagnaFuel 500 pumps or Product Engineering 4450 pumps on street/track.

Take a look at Fuelab's pumps. I'm running one of their low pressure 2 speed pumps on my 493" six pack motor. When the secondaries open a micro switch steps up the pump to high speed, otherwise it runs quietly on the lower speed. They have some nice products and good tech support.

Also, it's one of the few electric pump manufacturers that allow the pump to be mounted above the fuel level. Mine is located right near the top of the tank and sucks fuel through 2 Holley Hydromats via a pair of 10AN lines.

I was told NOT to use the BG400 on the street by BG in the early 2000s, I bought a Magna Fuel 275 pump and it was GREAT thumbs

Cab I'm happy you've had good luck with your 275, my experience wasn't the same.

I know it's not the pump in question, but I used to run a BG280 on the street. When I contacted BG about it, they said that running it on the street was a no-no unless you had a step down box for the pump. I ran mine with a step down box for years and it was fine. I can't remember the part number on that box.

I've always followed the BG rule of keeping the pump always wet with fuel by keeping the pump below the gas tank. Never had an issue. What's this step down box? Availability?
