I just purchased Calvert racing Caltracs and mono leafs for my 72 Duster..... I was considering using spring sliders when I move my springs inboard but I have a question regarding if they produce noise when street driven. My car is will see a fair amount of time cruising to and from the track, shows and social gatherings.... Even though they might be functional, I would hate to install something that would distract me from the driving experience if the sliders make mechanical noises.

thanks

I put them on my 69 Hemi GTX.....If you hear noises from your sliders, your car is too quiet!

If the car is quiet, you will hear the Cal Tracks work too.

The question is, do you really need them?

We've been 1.36 60 ft. with Cal-Tracs and a stock shackle with Poly bushings.

If I had a dedicated drag car or was going much faster I would consider them.

I would have thought having a free working spring would be great for any type of car?

Do they detract from normal road handling in anyway?

Not sure they detract but they are:

1. Extra expense
2. People have said they wear out quickly and make noise (no personal experience)
3. Require welding and fabrication to install and aren't a simple bolt in.

They ARE lot of effort to install which, IMO, would yield minimal results in a street car.

My small block street/strip Dart has been 1.34 with shackles but I'd still like to install sliders. If I were doing the mini tub over I'd use them instead of welding a tube in the frame for shackles.

I just did a mini-tub and opted for shackles because of the noise. One thing you can do with shackles is use poly bushings which allow more movement than rubber.

Someone mentioned sliders being more work to install. I don't know how he figures that !! The sliders can be welded right to the inner rail and the car will still have stock ride height. Whereas to maintain stock ride height with shackles you have to drill the rail for the new shackle eye AND you have to notch the rail so the shackle has clearance during its travel.

I use nylon slides on my sliders, VERY quiet, they use them on 4x4 set ups
