Looking for a new toy. I prefer the 72-76 headlights/grille, but if I can pick up a different year and then swap later, that would help open up my options. Thanks!

Various things change, '81 - '85; '86 - 90; '91 - '93 all use different core supports slightly but noticeably misaligning the headlights when swapping grills. No experience with the earlier trucks.

Short answerer is no, but with some parts mods/swaps you can. There are two generations of post Sweptline era (72-93) body styles. 72-80 and 81-93. 72-76 use the same core support but different grills sprinkled in. 77-78 had different grills, core supports and lower grill valance (fillers) 79-80 had different grills (of which there were two different of those) and core support but back to the pre 77 lower grill valance. In 81 there was a body face lift of sorts (one Square head lamp per side and sharper body edges) 81-85 used the same grill. core support 86-mid 91 were the same onto them selves and mid 91 -93 all the same onto themselves. This is just the abridged time line. there are misc. parts and pcs that have changed as well

Thanks guys, figured it might not be that easy. Probably just gonna go with the cleanest truck I can find for a reasonable price, they all look good with a lil work. thumbs

The proper way is to change the rad support to match the year/grille that you want.

That said, the '81-'90 support can be trimmed to relocate the headlights to accommodate a '91-'93 grille.

IIRC '72-'80 is all 'close enough' with the exception of the quad rectangular lamps as optional in '79 & '80.

Keep the grille, rad support and lower valence together and they mostly swap around. Front fenders changed in 81 so could be a bit of misfit when putting 70s grille on 90s body and vise versa. There's at least 3 different setups in the 70s based entirely on head light and turn sig location. With the quad head light specifically it's getting pretty common to buy a ratty original because that's all ya can find and then repairing it with the bottom of an 80s rad support.
