Thanks for the idea, Jeff. That is a true friend to help me out when a dinner is potentially at steak. (pun intended) Trans comes out tonight for another go at it!

In 2015, after our first Drag Week together, I told Joel as long as he would have me as his Trunk Monkey, count me in. If we make it to Midwest Drags, I’ll actually be passing up the opportunity to run my own car. Joel and I travel well together, and we’ve been on many trips.

Bert and Ernie come to mind. LOL Good luck at Midwest Drags. I may have to have a sick day and make the drive.

Jeff I know you always joke about how cheap Joel is but here's a deal that would make him happy to buy dinner. Yep $5.99 Porterhouse's. Going on the grill soon. If Dragweek was coming though here I'd feed you both just for the entertainment. Lol

Just to show that I'm not really that cheap: If I came to your place for a free porterhouse steak dinner, I would waive half of my appearance fee. smile

Joel I know you like seeing odd things so would taking you to Camp Lincoln military museum to see General Santa Anna's wooden leg that the Illinois Calvary took from him when they captured him at the Battle of San Jacinto which gave Texas it's independence from Mexico cover your fee?

Texas hates that Illinois has this spoil of war they captured.

That is right up Joel's alley! DEAL! I mean, who would pass up that kind of opportunity?

Now you're talking my language! I might have to sabotage the race effort just so we can finish early and go see that wooden leg!

Just an update they got the leg from him in 1847. He had not lost his leg yet in 1846 and had both legs still at the battle of San Jacinto. Heck I know you missed it last time so I'll even take you up in the Arch in St. Louis.

Time to bring this post back up to date for everyone. Not long after the last post in this thread, I broke the 499 in my Road Runner. Only thing I could salvage were the heads, and intake...

Fast forward to this year, Joel and I have made another dinner bet. If I run an 8.999 or faster, Joel has to buy me dinner. If Joel runs 9.999 or faster, I have to buy him dinner. The time frame was to be done by July 15th. Either way we could end up buying each other dinner. We unfortunately have one major setback... Joel has his HEMI apart, and the heads sent out to the guy that first set them up, as the valves are bent, and one of the seats has an issue. The biggest setback, is, there are no titanium valves available for his setup at this time, with no time frame given as to when they will be available. So if Joel can't get the HEMI back together, I'm not going to make him buy me dinner IF I can run an 8 second pass. As much as I like watching Joel open his wallet, it's not a fair bet.

I hope Joel gets the HEMI together. I'm getting hungry...

What is Joel planning on taking to Hot Rod's Drag Week?

With the indefinite wait on my heads, I'm not making any drag week, or even drag racing plans this year. If the heads get done and show up in time for me to put the car together and make drag weak, that will be great but I didn't register, so I'll just have to show up if the car is ready.

I have so many other projects that have got shoved to the back burner for way too long, I'm going to focus on trying to get some of them done this year.

I am feeling so tempted to put a gen 2 Hemi in my coupe. But I would need to remodel the whole steering system because the oil pump hits the steering box. And I would lose my beloved eight carb setup. And with the opportunity to focus on completion of a bunch of other half done stuff, I don't think I'll go down that path. Even though it's hard for me to contemplate.

I have a pretty good stash of new Ti valves. What are the specs? I want to see the 9.xxx pass!

That p/n does not come back on Ferrea's website. What size/OAL/stem diameter are we seeking?

Jeremiah, they are custom titanium valves. 5.300 - 5.350 long, 2.2 diameter, 0.290 tip, V-Groove, 5/16 in stem, 23 to 24° tulip. If I could find something close enough to modify, that might be good enough. Thanks, Joel

We found some stainless blanks, availability in 3 to 4 weeks. So I'm going to switch over to them because it seems the wait for titanium valves is indefinite. They will be more of a nail head than a tulip head so I'll give up a little bit of flow, but that will save some weight on the valve to help make up for the heavier material. Hopefully I'll have the car on the track this year.

So the big question mark now is, will Jeff run his 8.90s off the trailer? Or will it be a time consuming process where I will have a chance to get things together and win the bet?

Of course I want the free dinner from Jeff, nothing better than that in my book. Except seeing Jeff's car work flawlessly on the first outing. In that case all happily buy us both dinner.
