Hello All ,
Spent all of last season fighting with my old ss spring suspension . The thread is here https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/2818578/Searchpage/2/Main/232194/Words/%2BWIRENUT/Search/true/re-update-w-video-setting-up-da-shocks.html#Post2818578

Ended up going the caltrac route , and put a bit smaller rear tire on the car to get the back down some .
Got it to the track over the weekend and it all paid off pretty well . In 5 passes got the 60' down to 1.38 and change . Last year it had slipped back to 1.45ish 1.50 . I think there is a little more in it . Please take a look and offer thoughts on adjustments moving forward.

The cal tracs are set at the baseline and did not touch them just fooled with the shocks mostly increasing rear rebound.

My thought is add some air to the tires to reduce the wrap , feed a click or two of rear rebound into it and possibly load the caltracs a little bit to reduce the hit ? Not all at once of course . I think I would start with the tires and see if it picks up .

Tires are at 9.50 lbs in this vid and et was 9.94 . I will need to slow the car down as its not certed for 9's . I will just slack the throttle cable a wee bit . That usually does it .

Wow. I could have written this same post. I departed from my SS springs back in October for Caltracs. I tried running it with the stock shocks (don't do this... lol) So, I'm waiting on my double adjustables to arrive. You car looks like it's leaving well. I'll be following this post

Im so glad this worked out for you , as i recommended the Cal tracs....LOL

Congrats on having a car thats "too fast " now

Yes more air usually helps. Dont get hung up on the number, just keep going up 1/2 at a time and keep at it like you are

Watching that VID..... i like it. I would add more air and thats it. The seperation looks nice and controlled, Maybe one click tighter on the shock and more air,

What did you go with for shocks?

I have run MT slicks for many years. I have a NSS car with a 4-link. But I would say it hits the tire about as hard as your video, and has run a best of 9.64, My car likes more air in the tires, I run 10.5W 31 MT, believe it or not it has the quickest 60 foot with 15 lbs of air pressure. Most of the guys I race with have had similar experience, 12 to 15lbs works best.

I went with a company in PA called Competition Suspension Solutions that first fitted me with AFCO's but, they ended up being too long for my application so, now they're building me a set. I really like the guy that runs the place. Great customer service. A friend of mine who builds chassis recommended them.

His name is Shane 484-529-3501

For sure I'd try some more air in the rear tires, and for sure try tightening up the front end. We always try to delay the front tire from leaving the surface until at LEAST a 1/2 turn of rear tire revolution.

It's usually a good starting point to help tune the front shocks.

What you may find is tightening the front end, and adding air pressure might get it to start spinning. You might need to loosen the rear rebound at that point to plant the tire a little harder, but in the end it will be quicker with tight front shocks, more air, and a little looser rear rebound.

All about trying things and giving it what it wants.

This is a vid of DVW's car (My Dad) I took this weekend. You can see it hardly has any separation, and has just a slow smooth long easy wheelie. 31" x 10.5w. We run 14psi in them.

Lower hole. I don’t think I can use the upper as it’s blocked by the bracket

Thanks. That is the tire size I’m running.

So I wanted to ask some advice. I got back to the track , unfortunately I had no one to video . It was a much warmer day than in this last video . I couldnt get it to 60 as well as the previous outing . it was off anywhere from .03 to .07 . I only played with tire psi and shock settings front and rear and in small changes . My questions are is there a rule of thumb on direction of set up for a hoter track vs cooler ? At what point do I try changing the caltrac setting and in what direction ?
