Has anyone seen this before? I can't for the life of me think of anything that would cause this. The engine ran fine for a few hours then started running badly and it wouldn't rev at all but it ran just didn't sound pepie. Then I opened up this can of worms. What the heck is this? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Wow.... how much overall run time on those parts. (I know you posted a few hours but parts look well used or old).
Parts look well used up. Time to replace.
STOP POTATO HATE!

Not more than 3 hours total. I can't explain it. It looks like it just flashed off inside the cap somehow.
I don't have any vent holes in the cap, that maybe one problem. But I don't know for sure.

Thanks, I was hoping that was at least one of the solutions. I had been leaning that way but I wasn't sure if it could have caused my problem. But it looks like a consensus on this thread so I for one am going with the group on this. Thank you all for your input it was very helpful. PS. I don't know how this ting kept running either.

I will check the grounds, in fact I will add additional grounds. Hear is an update. I took a closer look at the rotor and this is what i found. It looks like the rotor stood to tall under the cap, I didn't know that was posible.

Cap view. It looks like where the cap meets the rotor overheated and melted. I don't know if it was because of to much pressure between the two or a flesh off between the two. Or could it be a case of miss match of parts This is a new cap next to the old one.
