Oil is like religion: Don't shoot the messenger, just thought I'd get the word out for anyone interested in such things.

SJ rated oil, looks like it's a Walmart thing.

At least it will probably be easier to get than alot of others, but being 20w50 only they limited themselves a bit.

Rich, thanks for posting this. i have an engine I hope to get going soon that has a FT cam in it.
What is the downside to running BR oil all the time instead of just for breaking in the new cam ? MY engine has dyno time only and that is what I used .

Thanks,
Mark

I had a neighbor move away that left an old case of 20w50 outside my garage one day. Win.

Bob: Nice.

Mark: I'm not familiar with the Gibbs/Driven BR, it's supposed to be great but I have no idea.
Their big selling point seems to be low detergency to help efficacy of ZDDP but I am not
super familiar with their product line.

I'd see what Gibbs recommendations are, and /or
(this is not a sarcastic statement), check with some of the professional
racing engine builders out there, both on and off the board, whether world famous or little known except in our world.

I'm a nobody doing one street engine every 20 years in the home garage to entertain myself, I can
get away with quite a lot compared to anyone who is wailing on their stuff constantly. I could name
5 oil brands and none of them ever gave me any trouble as far as I know, but it doesn't mean a heck of a lot.
My latest engine build has spent more time holding down the engine stand than anything else LOL.

For an idea what what will work on something that is constantly thrashed, I always reach out to a pro who has BTDT.

Rich ,
I used the Gibbs BR on three engines I built, because my machinist recommended it. I have had good luck so far breaking in the new cams. I think the low detergent factor is probably the reason it is not for long term use.
I , used the Castrol GT in my boat engine for years , so I was interested in this Classic. I like Amsoil too but it is pricey.
My stuff sits a lot too Rich . This engine sat on the stand for 10 years , and I finally decided to put it on the dyno just to do something with it ! LOL
Thanks ! beer

Mark
