I've looked in several places on the internet and haven't located anything that is real specific about decoding the stamped numbers on 904 and 727 transmissions. Attached is what I have as far as a 904 and am simply trying to determine year and model this is from.

Thanks.

Lock up converter? Should be.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Thank you. This must have been the original transmission in my dad's 1981 Dodge D150. Other than "904", what other model designation would there have been? Is this simply a $100 core or is there any other interest in this for other applications?

It's a lockup A-999 from behind a 318.

Just curious, but anything to indicate a 2.74 low gear?

This trans left Kokomo as a L/U, 4 pinion front and rear carrier, 4 disc front and rear clutch, and this part number Remained in use to 1985.

I can’t find the build chart but my best guess is that it was a low gearset trans.

That part number was used from '81-'85 so it likely has the low gear set.

This trans was actually a 999. The only units back then that didn’t get l/u were high altitude applications.
