Our local Teen Challenge is having an AUCTION on Saturday May 15th. Seems like more and more nice cars are being donated for their cause. I bought my current daily driver '02 Poncho Grand Prix GTP Coupe at one of their auctions a few years back.

The car that caught my interest is this 1993 Daytona IROC. I have always liked these cars but never owned one. And no idea if this is an R/T version or not.

Sorry the pic is so small but that is what they posted on their website and it is low resolution at that.

121,000 miles
5-speed
Runs & drives well
Clearcoat issue

Vehicles will be available to view Friday, May 14 from 9am - 6pm.

So. WIW?

Is that the 16v turbo.

The one that had the same motor as the Spirit RT’s?

Yup. Lotus designed the DOHC head and direct ignition system for the Daytona & Spirit R/T's only. Only 300 Daytona IROC R/T's in '92 and fewer in '93.

I learned all this today from Wikipedia. smile

Edit: Sorry, amx, I must have misunderstood your question yesterday and gave you the wrong answer. Appears to not be the R/T and as of right now, I do not know which engine is in the car.

I'd pay up to 5 or so for one that was in really nice shape and drivable. By now the paint on those cars is going to be bad so kinda expect that going in.

I've seen a couple over the last few years down in the 2-3 thousand area on CL, but the interiors were in really rough shape.

I "think" the only one that got the intercooled Lotus head motor is the IROC. RT cars.

A regular IROC got the non intercooled turbo motors with the 2 valve head.

OR maybe the 3.0 V6 ????

Been a while so i could be wrong

That one would be just the standard IROC with the 3.0 V6. The R'T's wouldn't have the IROC decal on the door. It would have a small IROC R/T badge on the front fender.

I wondered if the door badging told the tale of whether R/T or non-R/T. And now we know. Thanks, Fishy.

Hmmm, some further reading makes me wonder if the 6G72 V6 could be swapped out for the DOHC turbocharged version of the 6G72 that was used in the Dodge Stealth & Mitsu 3000GT. Bump the HP from 141 to 320 just like that. Hmmm....

From Wikipedia

Quote
While the 3.0 L V6 became an option on lower end models, it was the standard engine on IROC models. Optional on the 1992 IROC was the 2.5 L "High Torque" Turbo, available as a very rare option (less than 230 produced). Also available on the IROC was the new R/T performance package, which featured a 224 hp (167 kW) Turbo III version of the 2.2 L four-cylinder, but with a Lotus designed DOHC cylinder head and direct ignition system instead of a distributor-type ignition system; this engine was shared with the Dodge Spirit R/T.

k in the day I had a 92 electric Blue IROC with the 2.5 turbo and a 5 speed. It was 1 of only 36 in that color. One of my favorite vehicles that I have owned.

In the early 90's I was working in the parts department of a Dodge dealership. In spring '92 we got a white Daytona IROC R/T for inventory. It had black leather, and was loaded. One day the general manager (owner's son) asked me to go with him across town, to his father's other Dodge store, to pick up another car for a customer. We took that Daytona....man was it quick! I remember it pulled really hard, when he banged the gears! drive
