I have a Craftsman rider mower with the Dana D4360 series Transaxle (D4360-140). This series of transaxle has the reputation of being a POS. Most simplest fix might be the input shaft needle bearings but common reports of water intrusion within the gearcase and rusted parts the result thereof are the most common hits using Google.

Has anyone here changed to a Spicer 6800 series (looks like 6800-1 and -2) that the internet "says" might fit? Peerless MST 206-545C another potential swap.

I have not had much luck with Google searches. Looking for someone with actual hands on experience. The only page with anything beneficial is this one: http://www.ssbtractor.com/wwwboard/view_all.cgi?bd=lawn&msg=8269

I already know that a lot of mowers were made by the same manufacturer and just have cosmetic sheet metal and label differences. Most of the mechanicals are the same (even the 'Deeres).

Thanks in advance.

I am in the middle of changing the hydro drive on my Cub Cadet. Has about 35 hours on it and it lost its forward motion once it was warmed up. The dealer wanted almost as much to repair is a new one. I decided to see if I could do it. I found a new drive on line from the factory and just started pulling the tractor apart. I should be done this weekend. I cant help on your specific model, but good luck.

Can't help you with the numbers, but back when racing mowers was a thing around here, nearly all the guys swapped in the same transmission and rear axle assembly. Mowers are pretty easy to swap stuff around in, from what I've heard. I'd be willing to bet a search of racing mowers would provide a lot of useful information, those were the guy doing the grass roots swaps. I doubt your going to abuse your lawn mower as much as those guys that raced them did. They swapped in stuff that held up under racing for several seasons, should last forever mowing the grass. Gene

Thank you all for responding. Unfortunately, the type of transaxle that i have is not a fluid type. They were packed with grease and not sealed properly.
I will look into the racing mower angle.
Thanks :up up
