Spoke a bit with Tim at FHO yesterday. He gave so much info i don't think i absorbed it all, but i did get that the replacement head has been discontinued and the next head up the list would be the Stage v custom with a 2.30/1.90 valve and a 241cc port that flows 471cfm i think at .700. He says he has a cnc program that cuts a custom port per application. Another gentleman i spoke with last week who has a parts business wanted to sell me a Stage v custom with a 2.40/1.90 valve and flows 500cfm@.700. I'm concerned that bigger head might be too much head for my combo. A 12:1 572 850-900hp street/strip deal. I don't know the port size on his custom head, but i'm really thinking it might be way more than what is needed. What do you guys think? Any of you guys ever bought heads from Tim@FHO for a combo like this? Tim also mentioned using something like a lash cap that prevents the valve from ever dropping into the cylinder which sounds like a good idea. He's got my interest.

Tim's stuff is really awesome. Note he has an option that eliminates the standard gaskets by leaving .060 more on the intake flange side, and there are other things he does to them. And as I mentioned before, everything has to match to make it work....He has a whole combo on his site for a pro-street 572 and bigger.....Check it out. He seems to have it down and a lot of guys like his stuff. He uses a different set of keepers and valves than a typical Hemi as well. All his stuff is pretty well sorted out. Pick one of the builders and get all your parts from one source so you know it matches up.

471 flow is a really good starting point for a big engine with a lot of cam, most of us are in that range or a little less. My heads flowed 458 or so.

I bought my Stage V heads from Tim Banning a few years ago. Had him spec. out a cam as well to match these heads. He knows his stuff. I have been very happy with these heads.

I love the FHO stuff. I love Stage V. But the Victor Jr's are such a good value. Slap 'em on and get 800HP. Why bother with the other stuff? What a good time to be a Hemi guy.

That’s great to hear. I thought he was very knowledgeable and I can get him on the phone anytime.

Tim has a passion building heads and started at Entec in Toronto before he started doing mostly Hemi Iron and Stage V Hemi Heads in his own shop. His program on the Stage V CNC is real nice. I have dealt with him since the seventies well before it was called FHO. Every one of the guys that races NSS in my area has FHO heads on their motor, most are 604s a few 572s. Tim will talk on the phone and that is nice. Good luck on your build research everything and them go back and talk to Tim.

Yeah, so glad i called him. He helped me a bunch for sure and opened my eyes about the BM aluminum block. I'm fairly sure i will be ordering the KB block instead. I felt that the heads another gentleman was trying to sell me may be too large for my combo and Tim confirmed i was right. I'm gonna order the Stage v custom with 241cc port and 471cfm flow for my 572 street/strip deal next week. I will be getting the CP pistons from him as well and might have him spec the cam for the combo too.

Can you elaborate on what was discussed about the BM block? I'm in the market for a block as well and trying to get as much info as possible. If I could just pick up the phone and order a KB block and get it in a reasonable time, I would. Last I heard, that is not the case.

Oh goody. Another block bashing thread! These are always informative. Lol. Tim is a good guy and very helpful. I know that they had growing pains with the whole KB deal. I hope the get it straightened out before we all run out of this money that seems to be floating around right now. Ray Barton sure shed some light on the last block thread.

I'm not looking for anyone to bash any brand of engine block. I'm just trying to get information from a knowledgeable source.

I was told the sleeves move around too much as well as the main caps. The KB uses 1/2" studs in the head and mains, the BM don't. Seems the block was cast using the cast iron mold. Just not enough material in it for any thing over 700hp.

FHO stage V heads look great! I hope they work great, getting ready to turn the key in ~1 month. Just FYI, the exhaust ports are wide and raised relative to stock. They do not fit stock type headers without work. Also, the accessory drive mounts do not match OEM. Finally, depending on the intake you are using port match is a bear to achieve. In my case, I was trying to line up an Indy single plane and required more than I hoped. Good luck!

Thanks for that and could present an issue because I had planned to use the TTI A body Hemi headers.
