You'll have interference at the torsion bar crosmember. Modify the crosmember and floor for clearance.

If your fab skills are lacking, US Car tool had/has a trans crossmember for e-bodies. They may also have something for b-bodies as well. If I remember it was pricey at like $250-300.

I recently read that in an E-body, you can fit a 518 without modifying the car. The large reinforcing "ribs" on the OD tail shaft need to be cut off. This provides the needed clearance. I would think a B-body has the same amount of tunnel / x-member clearance that an E-body does. An A-body will need vehicle mods.

Installed 518 in my E-body with no mods other than the new cross member, as mentioned.
I would think the B body would have same or more room.
Have a PDF of the details, pm me for a copy.

70 and older B bodies don't have the same room in the trans tunnel as the E bodies, I believe the crossmember is farther back than on the E bodies. On 70 and older B bodies about the only OD auto trans that will fit without extensive modifications to the trans tunnel/crossmember area is the 700r4/4l60e transmissions, the 200-4R with work but because of more bulk in the rear of the transmission the trans tunnel/crossmember area needs more clearancing.

42RH (A-500) is a little smaller and a little shorter than the 518. You will have to build it up internally to handle the power but it may save you from modifying the car.

On my challenger I had to cut two notches in the tortion bar x member after cutting some of the tailshaft housing on the trans away. Made my own crossmember by cutting the belly out of the oe one and welding some 3/16 in its place in between the ears.

It is 3" or so shorter, but the overdrive housing is the same. May still help clearances though.

I put one in my 68 Charger, JW Bell housing, as said x member & thin the upper torsion x member where it is in the hump, a little hammer work inside the hump, I still have the factory console ,converted the stock shifter to a cable works great

Yes, the OD housing is what gets trimmed, you will have to fit it up and see on a 42RH but here are 2 pics of the 518 where the areas get trimmed...
