There used to be a guy named Bill Wildt that had a cable access show that covered all the car stuff in the area. He did a show on the Turbonique and had 2 of them, a small bike one and the bigger car model.

The downfall of it was there was no throttle control and you couldn't shut it off, it ran until it ran out of fuel. The guy had marketed a "bolt-in" kit for a 9" Ford that was far from "bolt-in" and between that and the things blowing up he went bankrupt. Supposedly the ones that blew up had been modified, but who knows.

Bill was going to build a motorcycle with the smaller engine he had. I doubt it ever got built, and I haven't seen him for 20 years or so.

A friend of mine owns one. I think it was the Pegasus mustang rebodied as a cougar. From looking at it and the stories I've read you didn't need Nugenix in the '60s. Besides the throttle being simply a toggle switch and once on the throttle you cant "pedal' it because it does blow up. Each of the two fuel tanks reside one on each side of the driver. There was also a Gocart version as well... panic

So that's what that was. I would go through old hot rod and drag magazines and see those ads and was confused to what they were used for. An we think we are speed freaks with 1000+hp Challengers full of safety equipment these days. They were insane back then! shock

This is a great episode of the "Dorkomotive" podcast done by Brian Lohnes of Bangshift and NHRA lead announcer.

I have found every single of on these podcasts very interesting.
