Those 440w8 combo's are very impressive in the power they can make. I know of another 440w8 deal that just went right under 900hp. The w8 head must be one hell of a great head. Why can't someone make a big block wedge head that works as well as the w8's? They do.

Why can't someone make a big block wedge head that works as well as the w8's? The supply for current BBM wedge heads is present, however the demand to use them or over-the-top R&D isn’t there IMO. It cost time/money. As with any head or motor combo, they’re only as good as their development, and most importantly only as good as the “human” behind it all making it happen. Brett is definitely making it happen and giving SBM guys options to go fast!

And they've not done any new castings since the Pro Stock Trucks days either.
As Wes eluded to, most of the BBM guys aren't interested in anything other than the stuff that is available. How many engines do you see with Predator heads at the track?

Impressive! Always figured an engine like that would be very involved maintenance-wise. Those things sure scream!

I am not going to say no maintenance but way less than you would think.
Has Jesel keyway lifters and small light springs light titanium valves.
The upfront price for this type parts is high but return on investment much better.
I can do 950-1000 HP W8 deal that will go 100s of passes with next to 0 maintenance.
My 880HP 411 w8 engine built for engine masters in 2011 has 150+ dyno pulls 100s of passes in my car 8.80s at 150mph
Then it went in Brad Bowers dart for drag week NA small block (we won😉)
She is still together 10 years same rings and bearings.
I did change springs for drag week. 🤪 Very impressive. If I ever win the lottery I'll have you build me one to play with in the heads up street classes around here.

I was trying to think of a BBM head that was decent and fit on a factory bore space block, I probably should have used a B1 head in my example instead. I shied away from it, because that casting hasn't really been changed since the early 90's, even the PSO version.
