It takes a #2 square socket, believe it or not.

Dave I had a similar experience with my trailer. I could not find a torx to fit and found a square drive that did.

i discovered there is a "torx plus" fastener out there that looks like a torx, but regular torx bits won't fit. and you guessed it, those take "torx plus" bits.............. when is anything going to be standardized again ? of course, it gives a guy the opportunity to buy new tools. Things ain’t what they used to be and never will be again. Be happy we had once I guess

First time I saw that was on the Max Wedge bolt hole plugs, took me a while to figure out it took a 1/2" square drive. Duh.

There are some goofy ones that have been used over the years. I have been told that the clutch head screws that GM used to love was developed for assembly line installation. I have run into a head design called a spline a couple times in my life, have no idea what the driving force was behind that one. Who knows?

HA ! ........... spline drive ! i have a brand new, still in the box, set of 1/4" drive [size ratchet] "spline drive" sockets and bits, with the spline drive on all the parts so you can't use the individual pieces with anything but this set. i don't remember where they came from, if i remember, i think it was a door prize at a cruise. probably a donation that was a "can't sell" item.
