I recently had my car in the body shop, for the last 4 months, due to some idiot damaging it. Long story. I had to get the whole car painted. The body shop took off the rear tail light housing, bumper, etc. I picked the car up today and drove it home and now the brake lights on the right side don't work. The left side works and the tail lights on both sides work. It's just the right brake lights. Is there a ground wire on the right side? And where would it be? The steering wheel was never pulled.

I would check the right side housing to see if it is grounded, I think it may have a built in ground spade on it for a ground wire to connect to scope

How bad was the damage?

Usually it is grounded by the screws going through the housing to the body.
Fresh paint will insulate the whole thing. Most times you have to chase the hole with something to get the paint out. Running the screw in and out a few times usually works, but not 100 percent.

If the tail light works its probally not a ground problem Check the bulb to be sure its good and installed the correct way they can be put in backwards and that its the correct bulb Thats the easiest Then get a test ligt apply brake and see if it has power Same with turn signal.Should have power with both.Rocky

Dent in the left quarter panel and deep scratches on the right quarter panel. I went to 10 good body shops and nobody would touch it because it was going to open a can of worms. My neighbor suggested the place that restored his 69 charger and I brought it there. I will check everything today. It's hard to apply the brakes and then look since nobody is home (working) and I'm by myself.

loosen the brake light switch and you don't need to touch the brakes.

Parking lights work on both sides, trunk light works, blinkers work on both side, license plate works, reverse light works. Brake light only works on left side. Funny thing is I keep getting dead battery and it's a new battery.

Still check the ground . . . always weird things happen with bad ground . . . on the Satellite I put additional grounds on the freshly painted car, and had no issues . . . good luck . . oh, and check the connector for the rear harness ??? Make sure you are getting power to wires going to right side brake light circuit ???

Well, the bulbs sound just fine. How about climbing in the car, have a spotter watch the lights while you work the turn sig lever from right to left while on brake pedal. Chances are the lights may momentarily light, indicating that turn sig switch is toast.

What would cause the dead battery. Brand new. I drove it home about 30 miles, amp gauge was good. Pulled the battery cables off for over night. This morning dead battery. Is this coincidence or part of the right brake light not working?

Good article. I will try that later. Thank you. The body shop had to get me a battery since it was going dead.

Well I went under the dash to look at the turn signal connectors. I noticed that the Pink wire going to the brake switch was not fully connected. I connected it and it looks like my right brake light is working now. luck Now to deal with the dead battery issue. My Volt meter broke last year so I guess I have to get a new one. I'm wondering if my Alternator took a dump.

The battery is bad, it should not loose it charge overnight when it is disconnected shruggy
I would get the old one back and have the body shop give you back the money they charged you for the defective battery twocents

when the pink wire was not making contact at the pedal switch both brake lights would have been non op. You may have jostled another connector when you were under there that restored contact. Keep an eye on it. for a start I would pull apart then reconnect all the connectors under there related to the TS harness

look close at the connection on the steering column where the turn signal switch connects to the body harness.
that connection can cause all sorts of problems. look for loose or broken/cracked terminals as well as for signs of melting of the plastic connecting blocks caused by high resistance [loose or corroded] of the terminals.
