How's it going? Was thinking about this project today.

Hey Rich,
It's making some progress . I am ready to prime the roof, quarters and rockers. The rockers slowed me down a bit since working on the floor is more difficult then in years past. Old guys can relate I am sure. Maybe I will get a lift someday.
So, I reconnected the rear springs and got the engine running with a temporary fuel tank in the front. It was good to hear it running. It has been 2 -3 years !
These pics are from last night. Today I will be doing some priming and masking. I will have to get some help here to remove the deck lid and hood next. I can R&I the doors on my own , but not those bigger parts. I also have to get my "glass man" buddy to lend a hand with the windshield .
The last picture shows my dilemma with the up hill lot in front of the building. I cannot move the car into the booth by myself with the engine out of the car. When it is time to paint the under hood area ,I will need to call some friends for that day.

Thanks for the update! Roof looks so nice, clean and shiny. Wish I could say the same, will probably end
up changing the roof skin.

Did the left quarter, repaired everything behind it and am working on the right side now.

Will probably end up doing a build thread at some point.

Had a similar issue with uphill climbing a few year ago, as I had to move my '68 Charger out of the detached shop
to get the GTX in, and move the Charger to the attached garage which the driveway has an uphill slope.
So I had to climb a hill to get in (rather than to get out).
The original 318 is still in it and runs fine, trans is good etc but the master cylinder froze up years ago so I
wasn't too comfortable driving it in there. Nobody was around to help at the time and I ended up slowly
pulling it in there with my tractor. Hope to get to that one after the GTX. Big plans for it...hopefully
life will cooperate.

Sounds like your making progress. Was your trunk good ?
You should start a build thread. I know I would like to follow it.
Are you doing a mini tub job on it ?

The trunk was good enough for me as it sat, I had blasted,patched it and shot DP90LF on it many years ago which preserved it,
but the rear crossmember and frame tabs that connect to it were bad.

Once all the back spot welds (rear crossmember/trunk/tail panel area) were dealt with, and one quarter panel was cut off
the only thing in the way of changing the trunk floor was 2 down bars/roll bar which (after the plates were cut off) I was able to flex
upward with a ratchet strap just enough to sneak in a once piece trunk floor from the side.

So one thing led to another and I did put a trunk floor in it. I know I will be happier with the end result, and saved myself
hours of repairing and straightening the rear spot weld area.

I didn't want to cut my trunk gutters b/c being a '69 the partial VIN is documented on the left one, so I just cleaned them up and repaired bad spots.

I'm using the new AMD larger inner wheelhouses to mini tub, there was enough rust at the bottom of the originals to make them worth changing.
Spring relocation will have to wait, but at least by then more than half the job will already be done.

Nice! Other than work to smooth the rear corner (where top of the quarter meets the side + the quarter extension),
any other effort needed to make the quarter mate with the quarter extension?

It looks like the '69 quarters are farther off in the tail light area than the '68s, as I had to add metal in a few places to make mine
mate up with the extensions. And yes, I need to start a build thread to illustrate that

I test fit my rear window trim and will need similar rework in that area to get it in the ballpark ( but I'm not touching it
until the dutchman is replaced).

Sure is nice to see all that work sealed up!

I did have to work ( cut and weld) the top outer corners on both sides of the quarters to conform to the extensions , and roll the lower part in as well. I also added some to the extensions to make it all match up. Not a lot though.
The back window trim areas were the worst of it really . I made the recesses for the lower corner trim a little deeper, as the cars I have seen the moldings don't seem to fit well there.
I agree you need that dutchman panel to get everything aligned.
It is a definite morale booster to have this much in primer. I blocked it out yesterday and re-primed it. I put it out in the sun for today .
I was really glad to see that the roof was in such nice shape. It will require a little work on the W/S posts where the roof panel joins them.
The doors will come back off soon after the blocking and priming of the quarters is done.
I want to see your build !

Hey Rich,
Sorry I am slow to reply.
I have made a little progress on the car.
The quarters and roof are in good shape after blocking the quarters several times. I removed the deck lid , and stripped it. It had some rust in the pinch weld at the lower rear of the lid and one other small place that I welded up. The lid was then epoxy primed and I have "ironed" the top of it before it was re-primed with urethane and began blocking it out. I think one more time will get it ,as it is looking pretty good now. The driver's door is next. It was hit in a parking lot incident when the car was a couple years old. I don't think it was bad though.
I made a handle out of romex to help me carry the lid to and from the paint booth easily.

Things escalated a little bit on my end and now I'm working on a new roof skin.
I'm trying not to rush + post-covid music gigs came back (guitar player -vocalist part time/auto parts electronic cataloging full time)

I've done a vlog on my Facebook to keep track, of it all using an old device I keep in the shop....
Saving the videos to a memory card so I can always play them and take still screen shots of important
stuff later for pics, if and when I get around to posting a build thread somewhere, either here or forbbodiesonnly, or both.
.....for the time being I'm kind of using Facebook as a free storage/discussion with FB friends area....

Thanks Rich, I am not rushing it, just focusing on one piece at a time. It's still making some progress, just a little slow. I have also been working on the taillights , and other small parts.
That's good that you are able to do gigs again. We all hope that doesn't change. I enjoy playing guitar, but I am not a performing artist like yourself. I entertain myself mostly !
