So I have a slight dilemma on wheels i’m Planning on one of my mopes. I plan to run bigger brakes all around so I figure I would have 17’ in the front. Now thinking on how big a wheel I want in the back and 19’-20’s with serious amount of rubber will be needed and make it look at least updated. Not to mention the company that offering the wheel choices have limited sizes, but I could change from a Mopar bolt pattern to get better choices. Has anybody here done something similar and can offer some advice? Oh, let it be known I HATE factory rally wheels and not fond of the magnums either. I already have a couple cars with dog dishes and steel wheels, so this is more of a ‘visual’ choice.

IMO anything bigger than 17's make these cars look awkward. If you go to 20 the sidewall height is very short and looks funny. 18's might work if you can find the right size tire.

I went 18's on mine and while I like the look I also trashed two rims inside of a couple years. Rears are 285-40-18 and fronts are 245-40-18. I did it preparation of a big brake upgrade and ended up installing brakes that would probably fit inside a 16" wheel. If I had to do it over again I would have bought the brakes first and done rims last.

Im with the 18 crew here, and remember tire selection get narrower and pricier after 18 currently, same with wheels, IMO

Sadly, they don't carry that model in 18's yet, thus why I was considering the 20's for the rear.

Sorry this just looks dumb and awkward. Not sure how jamming 20's is going to help you car handle...I do know it will make it ride like poop.

I went with 18's. After a ride in the Hotchkis E-Max Challenger, I started to base my build off of it. I haven't spent the big $$$$ on Forgelines yet. I'm currently running cheap replica FR500s for now. 275 front 295 rear.

It takes a lot of work to find big wheels and tires that fit, work and look good. A lot of work. Good luck with the process, it isn't easy.

I've always liked the Fikse wheels you used, Andy.

The Coronet turned out nice because I was willing to pay for custom built wheels and I bought supercar rear tires. The bummer is that the tires are now obsolete and nobody makes anything close to the same size. So I'm kind of stuck. It looks good but I can't replace the tires when they wear out. I don't have a solution yet. If I was building another B body car today and wanted the same look I don't think I'd be able to find the parts to make it happen. There were very few, maybe zero, rear tires available last time I looked that would work and look correct on a car like mine. Sometimes you can find a big tire from a Ferrari that will work but those tires are super hard to find. The tires on my Coronet came from a McLaren.

This is why I've long been a proponent of using a tire size that was found on higher volume production cars. There will always be a market for sizes that where OEM on Corvettes, Camaros, and Mustangs, even if the selection narrows and prices go up.

That makes sense except when those tires don't look good. Then a person has to decide if they want ugly tires that they can buy or if they want to do something else. It isn't an easy decision. I see muscle cars with ugly tires all the time but I don't laugh because I know how hard it is to find the right look. it can be a little easier for an A body since a smaller tire looks good on those cars but it gets tough for the big cars.

Talk to a first or second generation Viper owner, front tires are a common F body gm size, rears are discontinued by almost all tire mfgs.
Last time I looked, only Michelin listed them and they were pricy!
Didn't want to hi-jack but I agree that at least considering more popular sizes might pay off in the long run, especially if buying wheels too!

My brother has the same issue with his C5 Z06 Vette. Goodyear and Michelin only. When he needed them, neither were in stock anywhere. He really preferred the Michelins, but the Goodyears became available in a small batch, so he went that route.
