I like the B&M Pro Stick in that level of shifter. Basically the same as the Hurst with a better cable.
Winters and T/A are the same piece. Old school, clunky, big...some guys still like them.
If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

It depends on what you like, you should try and sit in a car with all the types you mention and ask the owners if you can shift without the motor running to see which one you want. Some of the race shifters can be a real pain to shift from park to 1st gear or from any forward gear into reverse or park I really liked the early B&M Chrome box cable shifters, simple and easy, reliable but no reverse lock out so they got outlaw by NHRA for drag racing I like and use the Winters, Fairbanks and T/A shifters with the rear exit cables ( they're all the same design) in my cars with race 727 tranny with the reverse manual valve body

PPP or M&M are the best. Of your choices a quarter stick.

The original Fairbanks and Winter 727 shifter, not sure about the current T/A shifters, had the rear exit cable that had a bell crank mounted on the rear of the tranny that shifted from the rear. More better header clearances on them also I called to order a PPP for my S/P car with a Powerglide tranny and once the total price got to $700.00+ I decided to go with another brand

No bell crank, it comes in similar to how the TA shifter does, mine is also a air shifter. Not sure if they are different than the manual but I would think if they are you could use it w/o using the air shifter function. This is also a reverse manual VB.
Ok

CudaTom do they employ a bell crank to reverse the movement or is it integral in the shifter?
Thanks, Joe On my screen the shifter from PPP is the kwick shift I. It should be the 8th diagram (the one after the 727 proflight with the double neutral) the 9th diagram is rear entry w/a standard VB. Hope this helps.
Ok

I have used the Pro Ratchet, from memory the Quarter Stick was pretty similar
Last shifter I bought was a PPP, but I had a hell of a time getting it., which was a common complaint from what I have observed.
The M&M are well stocked from what I have heard

I tried a Cheetah Shifter, I'd pull from first to third. Hated it. Went with a B&M Pro Ratchet, loved it it but the pot metal arm broke in the staging lanes. I've since fixed that...So far so good.

I have had a T/A Cheetah in my car for over 35 years now with 0 problems and it still has the original cable. I recently looked into installing a Shiftnoid electric assist setup to my T/A but it can't be done because of the way the shifter gates are. They do make an air assist setup for my application however I dont want to go thru that as its only legal in one of the two classes I regularly run. If I was starting over I would go with a PPP. Lever attached to the shifter is a DD adjustable starting line RPM controller, I can stage the car without looking at the tach. I just installed it last fall and it works great !!!
