What trans did the early trucks use? 46re like my 01 van? Special bell or just stock like a magnum? Reason I’m asking I have a 79 short bed 2x and I have one of each, 5.7 and extra 01 trans, would like to use both in the truck. If so next would be what electronics would be the most economical? Might have more questions. Thanks

The Gen 3 hemi uses small block bellhousing pattern. The new Holley Terminator X Max says it can control the RE transmissions.Sound German makes some stand alone for a few other options.

No, the 2003-2014 HEMI in the trucks used the 545RFE trans. The HEMI has a standard small block bellhousing pattern. I do not know if the bellhousing to crank flange is the same depth as the older Magnums/LA engines.

you need the conversion flexplate to use a 3 or 4spd auto, available many places.
The easiest deal is an early stick truck computer with a hotwire.com harness for that and a 727/518/46rh.
But you may want to have the 5, 6, or 8 gears depending on your projects. There are controllers for them and wiring from hotwire but the price goes up.

I would like to pull the 360 out of my unloved 1998 SST. The motor was heavily modified 20 years ago by me plus the 518 trans is fully modified. How hard is that swap? I've got a 5.7 on the stand that will have new MOPAR PERFORMANCE CNC ported heads along with the other normal go fast stuff.

you 'just' need the adapter flexplate and then whatever you're going to use to control the hemi.

I might have a Mancini Racing adapter plate for sale. My son changed to a Rossler trans and I think its a different hole pattern on the flex plate. I don't know much about his trans

Thank you
