Looking to purchase a set of (4) ratchet straps for a vehicle trailer and came across the wire hook style for a decent price. However, I'm concerned with the open hook compared with the snap/latch hook style. Interested what type/brand the forum is using to transport their Mopar vehicle(s).

Those pictured look like the HF cheap nylon stuff.
Best ones are Mac's Tiedowns.
I don't like the open hook style for a car, myself.

I have used MACS brand for years. I used to change out the straps every 4 years, but have used these are so well made that I have been using my last couple of sets for the last 12 years with no issues. Like always, if they get burned on hot exhaust, get cut, or start to unravel the stitching I replace them. https://www.macscustomtiedowns.com/

Have used the ones at the top in the picture forever
Never had an issue
Think they are all made out if nylon. As long as you dont let them rub on anything and fray, they aren't going anywhere. Most are rated well higher than what they are used for

Ive used the top ones for close to 20 years , never once had an issue.
I used them with some over the axle straps ( 2 straps each end )

If your looking for a very decent buy in, check out Husky from home depot- they have a 3300lb rating, $10 a pop and are quite rugged.

Kinedyne are also very nice, strong straps. But they are more$$$

I have some surplus military cargo straps rated at 5000 Lbs. each that have the closed latch on both ends, I do use axle straps on the car over the rear axle and the tie down loops welded on the front of my S/P cars front rack and pinion mounting bar. I use four of them on my cars, one on each corner up
I've had these straps for over 20+ yrs. and they have been used on a bunch of different cars back when I first used a open trailer, then 4 different trucks and 3 different enclosed car trailers since then, they work really great, I try and stop after one hour towing when I'm going to a race more than 200 miles away and retighten the rear straps after they have stretch and settled in. If I don't they will have a little slack, not a bunch, in them when i get to the races more than 100 miles away shruggy

I have the style that the OP shows in the first picture: bad setup, this might be tough to visualize, but, the hook makes me nervous because it likes to "climb" off whatever edge you put it on. I don't recommend them at all. I've used the style with the "flattened" hook and they are much more secure.

Now that's more like it, those would work on anything. I will definitely be buying a set of those. THANK YOU for recommending! beer

I've only ever had a problem with one kind of the round open hook style and it was because of the way that particular set was bent. I've found they hook better onto the trailer especially if you have to go to the sides and not the rings for whatever reason but the closed hook style feels safer on the rings and axle straps.

Maybe they were linked here but My Dad has some straps for his trailer that are the flat hook with the "locking tab" and they basically have an axle strap built into them and hook back onto themselves. They work great.
