Hi I have sport mirrors on my 70 Charger for some reason, see below pics ,
I want to change them to the more standard ones like in the year one links below ,
Just wondering is it a straightforward swap over ? Eg the holes will line up the same ? Also as the drivers side is a remote mirror is it difficult to get that all functional again on the new ones ? And I assume the top interior panel has to come off to remove the mirrors because currently when I unscrew the mirrors from the outside they don’t come off they only twist sideways, thanks for any help

Racing mirrors were a mid-model year option on 1970 Chargers.

What is / are the mirror codes on your fender tag?

In addition to the screw you can see, there is a stud going down into the door top. You have to remove the interior door panel to access it.

There are reinforcing plates you can add inside the door under the mirror.
They greatly increase the mirror's rigidity and keep the sheet metal from flexing.

Joe

Go to Mega Parts,- body -mirror reinforcements
P.S. even more important, door handle reinforcements

If your Charger was built after about 2/15/70 it may have been optioned with those mirrors. They would be body color. Fender tag code is G36.

Thanks for the replies

So those year one ones should line up ok ? What about the cables ?

I would paint the current ones but it’s difficult getting in the bits where the mirrors sit

I assume it’s just the top panel on the door that needs to come off ?

Thanks

You can disassemble your current mirrors and easily paint them. You will have to take the door panels off for removal. Leave the upper pads installed.

Don’t you mean it’s the upper pad that has to come off ?
The lower section doesn’t give you access

Nothing but solid steel under the upper pad, you'll need a long extension/socket to remove the nut off the stud on the mirror, your access is through the lower panel with the side window up about 1/2 way, keep the screw in the mirror base so it doesn't fall off when you remove the stud's nut

^^^ Yup, not a big deal really.
7/16 nut, use a deep socket, long extension, 1/4" drive fits nicely.
Sometimes the stud comes out with the nut.
You might need to catch the mirror, or tape it to the body if you like.
