There are reinforcing plates you can add inside the door under the mirror. They greatly increase the mirror's rigidity and keep the sheet metal from flexing.

Go to Mega Parts,- body -mirror reinforcements P.S. even more important, door handle reinforcements

If your Charger was built after about 2/15/70 it may have been optioned with those mirrors. They would be body color. Fender tag code is G36.

You can disassemble your current mirrors and easily paint them. You will have to take the door panels off for removal. Leave the upper pads installed.

Don’t you mean it’s the upper pad that has to come off ? The lower section doesn’t give you access Nothing but solid steel under the upper pad, you'll need a long extension/socket to remove the nut off the stud on the mirror, your access is through the lower panel with the side window up about 1/2 way, keep the screw in the mirror base so it doesn't fall off when you remove the stud's nut Mike
