I’ve been looking at all the new trucks and I seem to keep coming back to this model for some reason. Has decent options and pretty affordable. How is the 5.7 HEMI? Any known issues I should be aware of? I’ve had the 6.4 HEMI in previous SRT 392 Challengers, and currently own a 6.2L HellCat Widebody Challenger.

Gas mileage decent? I think the window sticker said 17/22 MPG. I thought it was better than that but I must be thinking of the EcoBoost motor on the F-150’s I was testing.

If anyone owns the Sport model, Big Horn model or 1-2 yr model older I’d like to hear some advice or feedback with your experiences. All I need is a 2WD, don’t need a 4X4 setup for what I’m doing. This is probably more truck than I really need, but the deals are good on them. Thanks in advance.

I don't care for any of the "new" trucks, Anything past second gen.

I understand that sentiment, I really do, and I LOVE my '79 Power Wagon, but sometimes the need arises for long distance travel, and a truck, and I'd like one for that.

Sorry o/p, we kind of hijacked your thread.

We have a '19 longhorn. It is a 4WD crew though. We get around 15/20 with it. It has a 3.23 gear. The only problem we've had with it was the leather pulling away from the dash panel on a concave portion of the dash. Other than that the truck has been flawless. It pulled a 6X12 enclosed trailer loaded to the gills just fine. Not sure how heavy it actually was but it handled the mountains just fine. It trekked through some really bad roads, more like trails, without a whimper when we were looking for a new house in the mountains. It has a lot of bells and whistles that I find distracting but the wife likes it. I also find the bucket seats in my '92 club cab more comfortable on a long trip. Overall we like it, and most importantly the wife likes it, I prefer my old trucks though.

I have a 15 2500 4x4 regular cab long box with the 5.7 Hemi and 242,000 miles with over half towing a 24' enclosed and I have been very happy with the performance of the engine. Typical broken exhaust manifold studs that I hope they have finally fixed. My water pump went out at 239K miles but my lifetime powertrain warranty took care of that with the $200 deductible. No other engine issues and the 68RFE trans has been amazingly strong although I have an engine code for "overunning torque converter clutch" that comes and goes and has been for the last 90K miles. I slips a bit on gear changes but hasn't changed at all in those miles, so I haven't done anything about it yet. They don't offer the 5.7 in a 2500 anymore.

Thanks for the info gents. Greatly appreciate it. I went ahead and bought one today. I like the old iron too, but the new Dodge’s are nice! Got a great deal that was hard to pass up. Thanks

We've had our R/T Durango w/ 5.7 Hemi for almost 1.5 years now. Love it. I averaged about 22 mpg on a road trip to South Dakota, a month after buying it. About 20mpg this fall on a road trip to Lake Tahoe. This included interstate driving at 80mph as often as possible, from western KY to Kali. We are very happy with the engine/tranny, and the vehicle.
