Yup, Western Sports Special was a promotional deal; I had a '69 Dart WSS.
They were like the White Hat or Spring Specials, basically a discounted package of options.
They were mid-model-year sales programs; WSS name stickers were applied to the quarter panels.
Almost always included a VT as a dress-up incentive.

I believe those cars and the similar Baracuda option was a cheaper version of the standard cars that the rear windows didn't roll up and down and several other things to make them cheaper to build and weigh less also scope
I've seen and heard of them a long time ago(1973-1978) at NHRA races while going through Tech inspections shruggy

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

My friend has a 1970 Challenger /6 western Sport Special that he bought new! It is one of the lowest optioned cars I have ever seen.

The cars with fixed rear windows were A93 Coupe cars (not Gran Coupes though!) and the Challenger was called the Deputy....not Western Sport. the Bcuda didn’t have a marketing name....just coupe, as opposed to hardtop. The A93’s were the cheapest E body’s made and are pretty rare, introduced late in the 70 model year.

I see so it’s like a 68 California special mustang, nothing performance just options and badges.

The WSS & other "specials" were not de-contented or anything like that.
My Dart WSS was a normal 318/AT Dart HT, exactly like a normal Swinger but with bodyside mldgs & vinyl top.
Yes, similar concept to the Mustang CS, but not as dressed up as those were.

We saw one for sale at a wrecking yard (Russ' VW Parts) in Duarte, CA. back in 1989. It was a red '70 Challenger, red interior, & white painted top, 383 4-bbl., & flat hood. It was all there - very rust-free car & complete, but needed EVERYTHING! WSS car. I really thought it was neat & could picture it restored, but passed on it. Oh they existed allright! I've seen '69 Darts with the WSS package & decals too - saw one in Phoenix in the mid-80's. Probably a /6 or 318 car.
