So, after 40 years of heavy Mopar involvement I learned something new from Steve's junkyard gold show this weekend. And I have a question....

In 1970 if you purchased a 440 4bbl 'Cuda you got a 375hp motor labeled the "440 Super Commando" and with a pie pan on the air cleaner that said that.

In 1970 if you purchased a 440 4bbl GTX you got a 375hp motor labeled the "440 Super Commando" and with a pie pan on the air cleaner that said that.

BUT....

In 1970 if you purchased a 440 4bbl Fury GT you got a 350hp motor! I never noticed this difference in 440 4bbls from the rest of the Rapid Transit System.

SO MY QUESTION.....

What did they call this 350hp version of the 440 in the Fury GT and what appeared on the pie pan on the air cleaner?

Thanks

Nope, the 440-TNT was the 440/375 hp motor which can be found in the 1970 Chrysler Hurst 300.

70-71 parts book shows the same pie tin for the air cleaner on Dodge and plymouth B, C and E bodies......either 440 super commando or 440 magnum. The 440 TNT is only shown on Chrysler C body.

the '70 Sport Fury GTs with the blue "T"-code 350hp 440s still received the "SUPER COMMANDO" pie tin

Excellent!!! Thank you. I hadn't even thought about the engine paint color but it makes total sense.

c-bodies are a "different world"

NO 383HP for 1970, but the N-code blue CARTER carb'd 330hp engine had dual exhaust manifolds
the Sport Fury GT's 350hp blue 440 had dual exhaust without dual exhaust manifolds

So, after 40 years of heavy Mopar involvement I learned something new from Steve's junkyard gold show this weekend.

A few things he got wrong on last weeks show. When he went through the 70 Fury line-up he mentioned Fury I, FuryII,FuryIII ,Sport Fury, Sport Fury GT and the little known S23. He didn't mention the Grand Coupe, available only as a 2 door with a lo perf 383,(L code) and in brown with a paisley top. He mentioned 14 inch tires on the Fury. My 70 had G78-15's from the factory.

I just watched this episode today...I thought Steve said the ‘71 440 had 375hp like in ‘70...which would be incorrect as we all know there was a HP drop across the board other than the hemi, I’ll have to watch again. Some great cars though...the sport fury 440-4bbl 4spd ‘vert...holy cow what a car. The polara 4spd with cruise...👍

Joe, the '71 340 was rated @ 275 just like in '70.
