Hello all!
I just finished buttoning up the drivetrain in my 1974 Plymouth Valiant. 440 engine, a727, 8.75" rear Trutrac with 3.91s. Currently front disk & new 11" drums in the back.
I wanted to push it deeper into my garage while I wired it up but couldn't get it pushed backwards even with a friend helping! I feel kinda silly asking about such an odd little problem but it's bugging me and my brain is stumped. Any ideas? Here's some info and things I've tried:
-The rear is freshly rebuilt and doesn't have any gear oil in it (could this create enough friction to stop a reverse push?) -Emergency brakes are disconnected (I can get the drums on and off, thus the brakes don't seem to be dragging too much) -With the rear of the car off the ground, the wheels will turn backward and forward -I've gotten under the car and manually shifted the linkage to check that the transmission was in the correct gear -I hooked a tow strap to the back and gently pulled it backward with a truck. It rolled backward and the tires rotated
I can provide any other details if needed.
Thanks folks!

Do both front tires rotate easily both ways? If not fix that first. Did you remove the residual valve from the master cylinder for the front disc brakes if the master cylinder was not a disc brake M.C.? If not do that next, if so look on

Thanks folks! I think that is pretty much normal. They always seem to be harder to push backwards than forward.

Yeah, it's normal to a point but with two guys pushing.....not so normal. 3.91 ears exacerbate the rolling resistance.
