Where is the best place to get one of these for a 69 six pack. I see them on eBay and they are pricy to say the least. I’ve heard the new repos are junk that last about a month. I don’t need one with the oem part number.

I found who I was looking for on eBay but his prices are the same on his store. Hoover auto parts out of Idaho Falls. $399.95. That’ll almost make you spit your coffee out. Don’t tell my wife!

Is correct appearance important? or merely function?...if function is your goal, Holley has a universal solenoid, but you'll need to modify or fabricate your own bracket to mount it as the barrel diameter is larger, but they are reliable, I've been running then for a few decades on my sixpack cars with zero issues....otherwise you'll need to pony up the coin for "aesthetics"

One car is a clone but he wants it to look right. The other is a real A12. I’m afraid I will need it. He did not before because the company ratio was 8.1. We’ve raised it to 10.3 with alum heads. It gets hot in Texas.

The "high idle" solenoid is used on the 3x2's to minimize or prevent "dieseling" when the engine is shut off. The 3x2's have a higher idle RPM and without the high idle solenoid the throttle does not close all the way and you can have engine run on or "dieseling" as Chrysler calls it. If you don't have the issue without the solenoid then that's a good thing but if it happens, well the answer is obvious what's needed wink

Also the original high idle solenoid is and was sourced through GM from their Delco Remy parts and it was also used on a '60's Pontiac GTO so maybe find a Pontiac GTO website/forum or Facebook and see if there is a reproduction made or a source for OE? If you find one on a GTO forum please let us know, thanks.........................................(I tried a few years ago, found which model and year it was used on but have to dig to find the info, back later if I find it)

Mike, are you aware of any differences between the Street Hemi solenoid and the 6 BBL ?

I found a couple Standard Products ES6 solenoids 4-5 years ago. They are also hard to find these days. Maybe someone will reach out to standard and see if the could re-introduce. Link

Transman, the biggest visual difference with the A12 ('69-1/2) versus say the '70 is a hex on the A12 versus round "pad" (need help with a term?). I think the Street Hemi solenoids have round pads?? Function should be similar, maybe the "throw" of the solenoid is different? Where the wire attaches to the solenoid (male spade) is also a little different along with the angle of the attached mounting bracket to the solenoid body. I think either can be made to function it's mostly optics correctness but could be wrong.

The round top is the '70-'71 3x2 solenoid plunger. The HEX top (which looks like a standard 1/4-20 bolt shock) is the '69 A12 solenoid plunger (at least that's how I have the image labeled for years ) That seems way too easy to just modify a round plunger to a hex. Can anyone confirm the hex bolt in the image is actually one out of a DR1114420?

Well, after looking around, I guess the best deal out there is through Hoover auto parts In Idaho Falls. According to his website and eBay, he takes bare NOS solenoids and adds the bracket and part no and then replates them. They do look nice and he can make either 69 or 70. $399.00 He sells the plungers separately for each year. One year guarantee. There is an nos one on b bodies for 1500 obo! Starting out at that price makes it hard to make a offer that won’t insult him.

Holy smokes!!! I refinished 3 for my project. Been holding the other 2 in case anything goes south but that price could make a guy question his plan

It’s his stuff. He can ask what he wants. I have two of the ES6 from Standard that will work for me on my cars. I bought them 35 years ago, cheap. You can’t hardly see the part number on my original on the car with the air cleaner anyway.

Looking at all the evidence, looks like Hoover’s is the best deal out there. I constantly tell my customers, “ We don’t live in the day of 20 cent hamburgers anymore.”
