I know, Im living in the stone age. But I prefer to retain my original ignition system , at least till I can no longer get service parts for it anyway .

That said,

Whats the best source and or brand for points and condensers.

Also, is the original condenser a wire or metal strap

I highly recommend reaching out to Ray aka HALIFAXHOPS on FBBO. Good guy and has the good stuff. I'm sure others will agree.

Thanks, They are still readily avail in the aftermarket. And my brother runs a parts house back in Ky.
So getting them is not my problem

Just want to source quality parts or maybe find nos OEM if I can or should.

So far I think OEM condensor has a metal strap

Don’t know if it’s still true but in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s the go-to brand was “Standard Blue Streak”.

I second the Blue Streak, heavier spring and ground strap

You'll find only one set of points really wears (the set that opens first), the other set won't really wear for a long time. Also, unless the points are really pitted, don't change the condenser, there is no need to. So,you are down to changing the one set of points, not a big deal. Good luck.

Yep, Standard Blue Streak was the top pick, but Standard was excellent also. Other than a slight appearance and price difference, the two looked to be identical. In performance, I could never detect any difference. In the recent past, Rock Auto has had Standard Blue Streak, but not now.

OEM are still plentiful and I would recommend that. Yes to the metal strap. The condenser also had the part number on it for OEM.

I found them from the man I bought the car from.
He has some spares stock . I talked him out of 3 sets of pairs for $30 per pair.and with a nos condenser , I tried to get him to come off 5 sets total, but the he said nope. ( he has several cars still running them )
BUT,,,,,,,,I have him thinking about selling me one of his NOS green lettered coil

The dist caps and rotors I found on Amazon of all places. And one on Ebay

Standard # AL483

ps, by application is Marine, I currently have a NAPA Al1680 on the car now, Same application.
Looks just like the Mopar 2585000 cap, just without the Made In USA embossed lettering

According to Standard's website, AL-483 Distributor Cap does not fit 1969 340, 383, nor 440.

Like i said. Its marine applications.
I have the napa version on my car right now.
Its part number AL1680 ...same deal. Marine applications. My brother crossed the number to standard # .
I found the napa number in an old prestolite book years ago. And i sold a couple hundred of them.....NEVER had one complaint.

The marine version may differ by not having a vent hole under a clip. Could be as simple as that to meet different safety standards.

X2 on the gasket, but a gasket wouldn't seal anything by itself if the cap had a vent hole.

Boats don't need fuel fumes coming anywhere near sparks, especially in an enclosed engine compartment. A fire in a boat has a lot worse consequences than a fire under the hood of a car. A car can pull over to the side of the road, a boat doesn't much choice on where to stop.
