wondering if i can use the 74-77 4x4 440 motor mounts on a 79 w series truck? it says with a divorced transfer case, (74 to 77) why would the mounts be different because of the transfer case? have virtually no knowledge of 4x4 dodge trucks. thanks, pics are what mounts i have, can i use them in a later year?

74 was the last year for the divorced transfer case. I have used 77 BB mounts on a 84 with no problems. So 75 truck and 74 Ramcharger/Trailduster BB mounts will fit at least to 87 and possibly tp 93.

I'm not sure on if the T-case makes a difference, but I recall there being a change in the engine cross memebers at one point. It might be 78' and newer had a beefier cross member, which could effect the mounts. Another thing, there are different engine mount brackets between 4wd and 2wd but I'm not sure how to tell the difference. Might be worth your time to check out www.ramchargercentral.com. There's way more info there.

From looking at your mounts it looks like the 4x4 mounts sets the engine forward more to accommodate the transfer case

ok that makes sense. those powder coated ones were actually nos when i got them with these part numbers stamped on them

3823214 right side

3823215 left side
if anybody has a truck parts book maybe we can find them in it for correct application

The used mounts looks like they have a dual fit application. They can be flipped to work with a divorced or non-divorced t-case, or maybe a van/pickup interchange. Can you measure and compare the oval hole to bracket wall dimension of the two styles?

I've had a 76, 78, and 79 as a Ramcharger, W150, W200 respectively. The cross members were all the same. The 440 out of the 76 Ramcharger is in my 79 now with the same mounts. The mounts have offsets on the front engine ears, with the straight part of the mount on the rear engine ears. There is more offset on the LH mount. The mounts bolt to the rear holes in the crossmember. It doesn't matter if you have a divorced or married tranfer case, as your transmission mount is in the same spot, regardless. The new mounts you have look like they may work. The one looks like there's not enough offset in it, but might be just the picture. Perhaps they don't spec the mounts for 79 and newer trucks, as they didn't come with big blocks originally?

What he said mostly.

2wd and 4wd tin grilles do have different front cross members for suspension but they use the same mounts. They all have 2 sets of mount holes - small block, big block. Shiney mounts in first pic are big block, the hole in one of them being for the oil pump. Used ones look like small block and IIRC 318/360 use the same on one side, different on the other. there is a pdf of the 78-81 truck parts book somewhere on the net.
