Never, ever argue with an IDIOT. They will drag you to their level and then beat you with their years of experience

Even at that price, is it worth it? Aside from a VIN and side steps with holes, what LRE parts remain?

Correct. I don't see $2500 there

I would agree if it was a 79 because there were 5118 built but in 78 there were only 2188 and finding one in any condition is tough. I would pay $4K for one in this condition if I was looking. I have owned a dozen Lil Red's in my lifetime but never a 78...

The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.

I'll give you that, but, this one is missing almost all the specific LRE bits. Engine is just a regular 360 out of a magnum,

I owned a '79 for quite a while. At the time, there were no re-pop parts available. It was expensive to put back together and a ton of work to maintain. The rear fenders caught rocks like a magnet. It was fun for a while, but more work than I wanted to deal with.

I have two of them, one is a 78 LRT with 61,000 miles on it. It's all original and matching numbers. It needs a light mechanical restoration, and a cosmetic restoration, but it's very solid. The 79 LRT is solid too,but it needs an engine. I haven't got into it enough to see if it has the matching numbers engine. The one in this thread would be worth saving, being a 78,they are pretty rare as stated.

I know there is the cost to buy in versus buy one done blah blah blah so to speak.
But whats a decent running driving little red bring today?
High teens to maybe mid 20s ?

I know there was one advertised a little while back in the Phoenix area and I think it was listed for low 20s and the truck looked pretty good

This one is rusty and a lot of high dollar parts are mia

to me the only plus side is its a factory air truck which for me would be a requirement if I was looking for one ,,,but Im not

Cost to build is my fav way to evaluate pricing - could I start with nothing and get as far for the same price. In the case of projects, I add up what I'd pay for the usable parts I see. On this one, don't think I see ask price in parts so the over under would have to be legit LRE vin which has some value. With that, $2kish isn't nuts.

I see alot of stuff that clearly started life as a LRE bring $4-5k when the same truck without the LRE vin would be $1500. Clean drivers used to be low teens but they've been creeping up along with all tin grille stuff over the last decade. I see trailer queen level stuff trying to break in to the low $30k asking. The odd thing: even with the low production numbers, they're pretty easy to find.

75 Charger SE - 440/4, cop suspension
76 Daytona - survivor
76 Daytona - tweaked
77 PW - macho clone, sno-commander, frankenram
79 RC - this was your fathers 4x4
79 LRE - More fun than it looks

The biggest thing is the bed itself. The sides and bulkhead look good. The standpipe brackets and where they bolt on is LRE specific. The plastic cold air housings that snap in back of the parking lamps. Stuff like that is hard to come by in a resto if you don't have them. Ironically I still have my original '79 engine and NOS tips in the box.
