[s][/s]Gathering pieces to build my aluminum INDY MAXX RB block. Curious, and bored, so wondering what everyone thinks it will make for HP?

Here is the parts I'll be using:

INDY RB block Bore: 4.524

Molnar 4.375 stroke crank

Molnar 7.100 rods, with 2.20 big ends

Custom Diamond pistons, compression should be around 13.5:1

INDY 345 CNC heads

INDY 440-3 Intake

1050 Holley Dominator

Roller cam to be determined (open for suggestions) I do have a older Comp .750 S/S grind.

Moroso vacuum pump

Milodon oiling system

Headers will be 2 1/8 with a 4" collector

A lot depends on the cam. Max effort, 880 hp? Assuming 4.500 bore for 556 cubes.

Forgot that. Bore is 4.524, so 563ci.

No B1’s...

I’ll be content with 850, but would really like to see 900 if possible. Doubt it will happen.

Port the intake, put an 1150 on it or Sniper 4500 and it should fly.

We have a guy here in UK who posts on here, runs a 580 wedge, 12.5:1, ported -13's, 385CNC roller of approx 750 lift, TR with 2 x 1150's and according to his weight/mph he is making around 895fwhp....perhaps he'll see this and post up maybe something I missed.

Similar to mine. Differences; iron block, 4.500 stroke. 440-25 cross ram. My -1s are hand ported years ago. Been 150@3350#. If your ordering pistons why not 15-1? I’m assuming you have the crank, if not why not 4.500”? The common cam seems to be 285/ 292 @ 111-112. 1.7 rockers can get you .800” lift on a mild lobe. Never had any valve train issues. I can give you the lobe #s. If you like.

The devil is in the details. I spent a couple of years on the dyno with my 514 engine and pushed it up over 900 hp a few times. That was with ported EZ heads so you're starting in a better place than I did. First time my engine went together it was right around 800 hp but have a couple of years of massaging it was up over 900. Lots of little details add up to some big gains. In my case the most important stuff was getting the valve train correct as well as having the heads finished off by a pro and having Wilson port the intake.

In your case if you just bolt it all together right out of the box then you should be in the 800 range. If you have everything touched up by pros and have the right cam in it then you could be up in the 900 range. Here is a dyno pull with my 514 on Q16.

You can make a lot of power with a 1050 carb as long as it is a good one. Hard to know if it is good or not until you compare it with a known good on the dyno. I eventually ended up with a really nice 1250 carb on my 514 but it ran hard with a good 1050. It also ran like a dog with a 1050 that didn't work very well. Some carbs work great and some don't and you can rarely see the difference.

On my recent build: 499” lowdeck ( iron 400 block) , 13:1 , indy cnc325 , only low .700’s lift solid roller, i picked up over 11 hp on back to back dyno testing from 1050 dominator going to an ulta 1250 dominator. 791 hp up to 802 hp.

I would think your combo would def like and use the larger carb even more than my milder combo. But, we understand it is what you have to use. Look forward to hearing about your build.

The only advice I can offer is that you might want to go with a Turbo 400 or Glide to increase reliability whistling stirthepot laugh

I understand it is what it is.......i just think you leavening some on the table,i had a 451" BB with a 850 that ran very lean. Put a 1050 on a/f came down engine was happy. Aren't those 440/six packs rated at 1200cfm?

Should I avoid going to the track, and just claim it runs that?
