My stock 2006 3500 has 155,000 miles on it now and the mileage is not as good as it to be. I'm wondering if a tuner box would help it and if so which box is the better one to get, I drive it empty around town more than anything else help I do put it in tow mode when I'm towing my race car in the Pace 24 Ft. trailer but that is only in the summer 10 to 15 times a year average.
Thanks for your help on this thumbs

I got the super chips when I bought my 06 3500 4x4 new, I run it in tow mode all the time now. 135,000 miles, recent trip to Savana and back 1200 miles and stopping over at dads in SC I got 19.8 mpg averaging 75 mph (actual gallons into miles not the lie guage). The box on race mode is too radical, not sure how much HP it adds but it feels almost as good as my 392 SRT.

Have you done a valve adjustment Cab?

On a stock never been fooled with diesel, there's not much mechanically that can affect fuel mileage.

Valve lash is one. Injector nozzle holes will erode bigger over time which will allow them to pass more fuel over the same pulse width but that usually takes several hundred thousand miles.

Another thing to check is your charge air cooler for leaks. Plug one end and make a fitting for the other end with a valve and a gauge to apply about 30 psi of shop air to it. Air it up and close the valve. If it loses more than 5 psi in 15 seconds, it needs a new one.

What mileage are you getting? About every third fill up I put a gallon of 2 stroke oil in the fuel, Walmart brand, super tech TC-W3. Cleans up the injectors and top end. Also added the big Cat filter, 2 microns type, and a water filter, came in a kit. Cummins recommends (discreetly) 2 microns were as Dodge says 10 is ok, wrong. Injectors will clog at 4 and there’s 3 openings in each.

I use Edge not because it is the best tuner but because I did not already have gauges when I bought mine, so the tuner with gauges in one box worked for me.

If you haven't done a valve lash, you should. I did mine when it had about 100k on it, and the valve lashes were all over the place from factory. I set them to. 010"/.020".
I also use a quart(liter) of Walmart outboard 2 stroke oil per fill for system lubrication (especially for my Vp44). I find too much 2 stroke oil will drop my fuel mileage though. I find no 2 stroke oil will give better fuel economy, but my 24V will sound noisier. (I know... they're already noisy)
My edge, I put on level 1 when unloaded, and has a good power and milage increase. 2-3 mpg
Diff oil?.. Get good synthetic gear lube, helps a little bit, especially in the cold.

The Smarty Jr. is a good option for trucks that are stock or mostly stock, They have three preset levels that are considered safe for an otherwise stock truck. I use one on my 2004 1 ton. I'm happy with it.

I left the tune alone, and went the airflow route with a drop in filter, Stealth 64 turbo, home ported Ebay stainless exhaust manifold, and 4"turbo back exhaust. Gained quite a bit of mileage and power.
