I'm putting together a 318 that should be in the 450- 475 range@7K. I've used H beams before with great success. Found a set of Scat and Eagle I beams within $25.00 of each other. Thought that eagle has been low in quality. Scat the better deal?

I had a SRP forged street piston fail with a Scat I beam rod while warming a stroker pump gas street 340 motor up on a engine dyno to get the oil temp. above 130 F and break in the cam at around 2000 RPM in less than 15 minutes whiney The wrist pin, one rod bolt and the rod where in the oil pan after the rod putting a hole in the side of the oil pan with no warning puke whiney
I sent pictures to both Scat and SRP, SRP ask me to send them the piston as one side of it had broken off at the bottom of the ring land and let the wrist pin fly rant SRP did nothing about that other than say they didn't know why it failed after looking at it down
My message is don't buy the cheapest parts based on price if want better parts in your motor and no problems later work

Word round the camp fire is that the Scat with the 7/16ths cap screw is the superior piece.
Springing for the bolt upgrade is never a bad idea either.

Eagle SIR small block rods have 3/8" bolts and made from 5140 steel.

Scat I-beam small block rods have 7/16" bolts and made from 4340 steel.

The Eagle SIR isn't a bad rod when used in the right application and the Scat is a little bit heavier, but the Scat has more advantages and would be my choice.
It's always best to keep piston weight down.

I always try to get the complete reciprocating weight down. That has always been my take away from catastrophic failures

I'd opt for the Scat personally. In our family 4 motors have scat rods and thus far no issues.

My two cents- SCAT.

No interest in Eagle I beams or Eagle cast cranks after seeing pics of the carnage here and elsewhere.
