I'm planning on buying a vehicle online but I'm having a hard time figuring out the best way to transfer money. All I wanted to do was do a simple bank wire transfer from my account to the sellers account but it seems more stressful and difficult than I imagined. The seller has a Bank of America acct as do I, so I called the bank and asked how to do it. An hour later on the phone with the girl trying to log into my account with countless password resets through emails I'm lost. They use some kind of Zelle service thats limited to amounts less than the vehicle. And they say if you enter the wrong info or incorrectly you might lose your money. And I believe it's a common wire service among banks. What happened to the good old days of going into a bank and asking them to transfer the money by calling the recipients bank. So I called escrow.com to try them and the difficult to understand fast talking India woman said to wire them the money. They don't do bank transfers from one account to another. I thought the whole idea of using them was to simplify the transaction. So I am stressed out that I'll probably have to pass on the vehicle after days of calling and negotiating with the seller. Anyone that has any experience with transferring money would be highly appreciated. thanks

It's so easy to set up I don't even remember how it's done. My Dad and Brother and I all have / had BOA accounts. IIRC, I just set my Brother up as a payee? I just enter the amount and click done. FWIW, there's a $50,000 limit on online payments.

Trying to wire money over the phone might be your problem. You'll probably need to go into a branch. That's what I did when I bought my Belvedere. It was pretty easy, but I did have to pay something like $35 for the wire transfer. That was from my bank to the seller's credit union.

I sold one last December.
All of the terms were agreed to by both of us via emails and followed up with letters as the following transpired.
The buyer pay pal'd me a 500.00 non refundable deposit.
He then sent a 5K cashiers check, also non refundable until he could get his loan approved. Once it was approved he sent the balance in another cashiers check. Once it cleared the bank. I sent the title. He arranged the transportation and away it went. All mailings were done via Fed ex overnite delivery.

With our banking system in Canada an online transfer is a breeze and costs the sender a whopping $1.50 flat rate. HOWEVER, there is a limit to the amount you can transfer per day of, I think, 5k and I suspect that will apply to those services in the U.S. as well, just in case of fraud. Why not get a bank draft and FedEx it to the seller. It may take an extra day but its a lot less hassle.

Shouldn't have a problem if you go into a branch in person with the name, address, ph# , ABA # ( routing #) and Account number of who you want to send it to.
Usual cost about $25.00 and gets there typically within a business day or 2.
Done this many times with no issues.

Just go to bank and transfer money from your account number to theirs. You don't need a wire transfer since it's the same bank. You'll walk away with a withdraw and deposit ticket and be done. I did a $55K transfer at BOA when I bought my last car. All you need is your account number ID and his account number. Also need to know what state he lives in but I'm sure that's not a problem.

Go to your bank with the bank name, recipient's name and address and account number you want to transfer the money to. The cost of the vehicle and what the money is for, is completely irrelevant. You do not need to communicate with the bank the money is going to.

Make sure you specify you want a wire transfer not an ACH transfer. Should be completed in less than 24 hours.

You will need the address and phone # of the branch the $ are going to. Had to send it the Australian buyer of my 72 Scamp a month ago. Went easily on my end

Thanks Guys for all of your help and answers toy my question. It's a lot of great advice for this and future purchases. Without a smart phone,( I have a flipfone I'm old ) it's nearly impossible to do much online for me at least and with the Corona I really hate to go into a building for too long. Normally I would go into the branch like you guys suggested. And most online transfers seem to limited to 5k or less per 24hr period. The guy I'm buying it from is a super nice 20 year retired military thats good with any way I want to pay. He didn't even want a deposit. Both of us have Bank of America accounts and he's ok with a personal check from my money market savings acct. It should clear fast. I've been with them for years. He's already Fedex'd me the signed bill of sale form required in Fla. and I'll mail him back a signed copy with the check. I have to set up a transporter that I picked and he'll be there to help load it up. He said he wants to wash it and wax it first so bugs won't stick to it. It's nice to deal with decent people. I'll probably have him Fedex the title even though the carrier co. said their driver would take the Title for me if I want. I think Fedex might be safer. Hopefully it'll all work out well and if I can figure out how to post pics I'll upload them so you guys can check it out. Thanks again everyone and Merry Christmas Happy New Years. Clem.
