Trying to clear out some of my old stuff I don’t use anymore and I have a couple of boxes of magazines I don’t know what to do with. I have about 14 years worth of Mopar Collector’s Guide (1993-2006) along with maybe 40 or 50 various other Mopar magazines and a few Hot Rod and Car Craft as well. I hate to throw them out but I don’t want to store them anymore. Just curious as to what others do with their old, unwanted magazines.

In my experience old magazines are difficult to sell. I've listed many and sold few. If you want to go that route, 'batching' them by title and year helps.

If you don't want to sell them, try donating to hospitals or assisted living facilites. There are bound to be car people among the residents, and they'd get some entertainment from them.

I'm in the same boat. I've got a bunch of car magazines from the late '70's, onward.
I've been going thru them one last time, just keeping any that apply to my vehicles and the rest go to the recycle bin.
It's interesting to see how car advertisements changed over the decades.
Still haven't come across the issue of Hemmings yet that had the ad for the AAR that I bought.

before Covid, I would give my wife my old mags to take to the doctor's office she works at so the guys have something besides Good House Keeping to look at.

The gym I go to takes magazines for their racks for people to read while on the treadmills and bikes. The later years of Hot Rod when Frieberger was there and had some actual Mopar content are worth passing on as well as My Motocross magazines.

As for the Mopar crap, since they won't burn in the fireplace, I put them a few inches under the topsoil in the garden and flower beds to keep the weeds down. The only pages I kept are the Richard Ehrenberg articles.

there are cheap bulk mailers for magazines and papers.
if you feel up to it, find a random APO or FPO address and donate to troops overseas.
you can usually look up who is deployed or not.

just one of the places you can look up.

I have hundreds, if not thousands of car magazines in boxes in the attic. I can honestly say that the only one I ever dug out for reference was the Hot Rod/Car Craft/Popular Hot Rodding....whatever one it was, that had the "Hoovers Mover" article in it. That was the one with Tom Hoovers notch back Cuda with the 360 in it, and told how to machine .020 over 340 pistons to put them in a 360. I did the cheapo version and used 4.040 stock pistons. It worked good, but my machinist said not to ever ask him to do some realcrazy crap like that again! Now you can buy any kind of piston imaginable for 360 motors, so no need to dig that ancient recipe out ever again. I guess at 63, it's time I start dealing with the hoard of magazines myself! work

If no one here claims them, maybe donating them to a veteran's organization?

Went to Mopar show this year and in the goodie bag were three old vintage car magazines. Was kind of cool looking at the old adds and articles. Maybe ask your local Mopar club, donate them to them so they can do the same. Don't mean to rip off the other clubs idea but thought it was pretty cool. twocents

I'll take them only if you can drop them off in Rockford, IL, or if I am doing a transport in your area... wave

I rarely take stuff to sell at area parts flea markets but a few years ago I gathered up a load of parts and a box of old hot rod, car craft, etc. I didn’t even get my stuff unloaded and a guy said how much for the magazines. Heck I didn’t even give it a thought yet and he said I’ll give you 25.00 for the box full. Sold.

Use to have stacks of them, pain in the butt to move around and unloaded all of them about 15 years ago. There was a carcraft my car was in that I am trying to find still, about the only one I am after. They totally have value, just not monetary - donate them to a school or somewhere else someone mentioned.

If you put them on here in the "free" area, I am sure some Mopar Freak will grab them.

I recently inherited a pile of them myself.
I don't plan to keep all of them, but certain ones from the early '70s and older are gems to me....a reminder of how different everything used to be.

As said above it is not really a dollar value they have, it's something else that is hard to find in this day and age.

Information used to be, for lack of a better word, precious.
Not so, now. It's all disposible.
People are so spoiled and think they can find any info, anytime....to some
extent it is true, but not always.

I have several hundred , maybe even over 1000 NONE newer than approx 1974 or so. Most go back to the early 60s
I'll take $2 each.

And just an FYI, they can NOT be mailed via media rate. because they have advertising in them

Nobody pays $2 each, unless they can request a specific issue and you are willing to sell individual issues.

A few year ago a friend of mine gave me a bin of Mopar magazines, Car Review. etc. There just a couple that I kept. But m what I did was every time I went to a car show, I would take a stack with me and put one in each car.
Whether it was a Chevy, Chrysler or Ford, each car would get a magazine. Took me about 6 months to get rid of them.

I have decades worth of magazines dedicated to several hobbies. A few years ago I realized I never looked at any of my 25 year collection of aviation magazines and decided to start throwing them away. Problem is I want to read through a magazine before tossing it. So it ends up taking me 30-45 minutes to get rid of a magazine. I’m still working down the pile of aviation magazines, and at the rate I’m going, I won’t live long enough to get through them and my 40 year car magazine collection. no

Timely topic.

In addition to Mopar mags, I have Street Rodder Magazines from the '90's. This was back when the magazine was 200 to 300 pages long each month. At the time, the fabrication articles caught my eye.

I used to look thru them from time to time, but I haven't touched one in at least 10 yrs.

Tired of lugging them around, but can't bring myself to just toss them. frowwn
