I need a new mattress. I'm looking at the Puffy Lux. Anyone have a bed in the box they like/hate? What better place to ask bedding advice then a Mopar one?

mattresses are a real personal choice. Some like them very firm and others softer than a cloud.

When I first got married I had just gotten of being stationed on a destroyer for 4+ years, those mattresses were 2" of foam rubber atop a steel locker, very firm. I used to sleep on the floor because every civilian mattress was way too soft. Now I sleep on one of these medium firm type of mattresses.

So if you want to know what other's sleep on ask them for a suggestion. If you want to know what you want to sleep on you are going to have to test mattresses at the mattress store.

I have no experience with the bed in the box but I never liked the foam type mattresses as they always made me feel hot. For many years I always liked a firm mattress but now as I have gotten older I like medium to soft spring type mattresses.

I would definitely try one for our next bed. Wife and I bought a quality medium pillow top. Was still to firm firm for me cause I've had Sciatica now for a few years. I bought a 3" soft latex topper. Not a foam store piece. Think it was like $600. BEST investment. I'm a side sleeper and sleeping on a mattress, even a quality pillow top, it felt like all my weight was on my shoulder and hip. With the latex topper the support is distributed more evenly.

I got a 'Tulo' from Mattress Firm in 2019. Being a side sleeper myself, the mattress isn't overly soft, but I feel supported the full length of my body. I was on a pillowtop before, and it didn't have the even support feel to it that the Tulo does.

My only complaint, I find I need to rotate the mattress frequently, like whenever the sheets are changed. It seems to take a set to my routine that doesn't go fully away, unless I switch sides for awhile. Make sense?

It has a 10 yr warranty on it.

I'd buy another, especially if it were on sale.

The wife and I need a new mattress as well. Right now we are sleeping on a 15 year old inner spring that she bought right after we met. She wants a pillow top. I think I'd like a more firm mattress. I'm worried about shopping for a mattress "in-store" right now. I'm not too keen on rolling around on a mattress that hundreds of other people have rolled around on during this pandemic. Not sure what we are going to do yet.

Another component to this is that I've already built a headboard for our existing bed. My plan is to build a footboard and a frame myself. I need to determine if new mattresses require a box spring or if I can set the new mattress directly on the frame I make. I'm thinking 2x10 side rails with 2x4's mounted on edge spanning side to side. I thought about a thin piece of luan over the 2x4s but I read where you can get mold forming under the mattress if it's laying on a solid(unvented) platform.

I need to determine if new mattresses require a box spring or if I can set the new mattress directly on the frame I make.

All the 'bed in a box' I've seen don't require a box spring.

Where I bought mine, they included a 'free' metal frame to set the mattress on. It's just a basic frame with fold up legs for easy moving. The only thing I don't like about this frame is that there is no provisions to mount a headboard. Your wall is your headboard.

I've though about looking at a conventional bed frame and the possibility of setting this metal frame inside of it.

That is what I did when I got mine.

We bought a Beautyrest Black Hybrid about a year ago. We did a plush based on the "analyzer" the store had us lay on(we're both side sleepers) It's been good! No box spring and we put it on an adjustable base...pretty cool for watching TV and such. Price tag is not for the faint of heart though.....they're proud of them for sure.

I bought a mattress in a box for my trailer from amazon because it was the cheapest way to buy the size I needed. I'm happy with it but the first one they sent the box was completely soaking wet at the bottom like they dumped it in a puddle during shipping. I didn't even bother to look what the mattress was like.

You must've been in officers country because there's no way those mattresses were 2"thick
