Pondering a car purchase and one of them could be a new 1320. Last I heard, Dodge was talking like 2022 was the end of this platform. Is that still the case?

Now they are saying that the platform will go to 2024

If they keep selling , why not up

They are smart, milking a cow until it stops producing. But if one is not hooked on a name or brand that in reality is all that it is anymore and looked at other producers there are some nice cars being produced that can do alot more then just straight line performance as an overall package. But at the same time, why re tool now when there are so many world factors that my change soon.

Nobody knows, once they merge with PSA, the PSA CEO will be taking over. He does race cars in his free time, might be a glimmer of hope

Good. Maybe he will give us a new Viper.

Hard to say at this point. With the sale to PSA going through, anything that was said or planned in the past means little and is subject to change. popcorn

Not sure what they should do with it other than leave it alone. This car is like the 73-87 Chevy/GMC pickups as they have been able to keep bringing customers in for a long time without having to do drastic changes to it.

If they change the styling to a non-retro design it won't sell as well.

If they make it a 4 door like the Charger it really won't sell.

If they make it a fwd, awd, V6 only, or anything too far from the existing drivetrain is now it will loose some of it's appeal.

The car could really use a nip/tuck styling clean up and a diet, but that won't happen.

Are they making 2021 1320s? I hope so but I have not seen one yet.

Yes, I scour the internet looking for reliable sources. The last I read was a redesign has been delayed once again and the current LX platform will remain through 2024, with some updating. Most agree the next gen will be on the Alfa Giulia platform, which is supposed to be a good one. The big question is engines. Will a V8 still be available or only turbo 6. CAFE standards may be raised again soon, so I'm worried. I know a turbo 6 can produce as much power as some V8's, but it'll never do it for me.

Can we get the Mexican cartels to help us with our supply chain issues? They don't seem to have any trouble getting stuff from one place to another.

What will kill the Challenger is gas prices going up.

The next platform will probably need to support Hybrid and EV drivetrains.

With the hatred of gas engines growing, I would be milking the platform as long as possible, too.

Thanks,
Scott

They show on the dodge website. Some on inventory search on there too.

It'll go electric before anything else, same with the charger. You have two low 9-second electric sedans on sale right now, so they'll likely go in that direction eventually.

Hard pass on electric, even if they're 9 second cars. Problematic and expensive and just not the same sound and feel that I love. I guess I'm old fashioned.

So, it'll be the Mitsubishi Challenger all over again.

Way less moving parts, motors will be from suppliers, chassis too - the only thing mopar will be the body, like pro stock or nascar today, thats the future, like it or not/ "I dont make the rules, just the messenger"

I hope they do make an electric Challenger/Charger. But PLEASE, keep the body style. Don't make it like the E-mustang that doesn't even look like a mustang. They would sell a lot more making it look correct. Yes, tweak the body a little here or there for aero, but don't redesign it to be a $hitbox and call it a Challenger/Charger.

Pretty much what this article says: Really interesting read! I included an excerpt. https://www.hagerty.com/media/opini...ontent=20_November_21_Newsletter_Weekend

On the other hand, they managed to singlehandedly preserve the concept of the desirable American-branded sedan after Ford and GM abandoned the field in cowardly fashion. They make cars that look like four-wheeled thugs and brutalize racetracks into submission while also pairing with two Bluetooth devices at once and offering wide-angle rearview camera. Heck, the Challenger alone comes in specs from “stick-shift track rat” to “Friday-night drive-in throbber” to “203-mph wide body” to “AWD winter specialist.” Name another car that can do that. Not even the BMW 3-Series has that kind of range any more.

The Challenger and Charger, by their very continued existence and success, expose an unpleasant truth in the auto industry—namely, that pretty much every new design of the past decade is optimized for:

* Chinese tax laws
* EV and hybrid compatibility based on future California legislation
* Euro pedestrian protection laws
* Various social and political imperatives embraced by the automakers
