79 power wagon with the quad headlight set up. Received new headlight adjusters and screws from LMC truck. All the old ones were crumbling and falling out or already gone, leaving me nothing to go by for install. I know this isn’t exactly rocket science but I’m having trouble with it. One of the old ones that was still hanging there has the adjustment screw going in one way, however the new one has the adjustment screw going in from the other side (see photo). So I don’t know if the previous owner of the truck installed incorrectly or if LMC has the adjustment screws installed incorrectly for shipping, which I doubt. Can someone please explain how to put these in and dumb it down for me LOL?

pretty sure the rusty one is correct so it won't pull through when tightened. The ones I have messed with pushed in from the front then pulled forward to catch the small wedge. Those just come in from the back. I'll look at my truck tonight.

Doesn’t really matter - the tabs are gonna break off when ya tighten it down anyway. Keep the screws and use liscence plate nuts for the anchors.

I looked and mine go in from the front like your new ones. But mine aren't quite the same. They have a larger tab on the back like your front tabs unless your back tabs are bigger than what it looks like in your picture. Are they tabs or just a step? After looking at them I don't think that if the bullet nose was forward that the screw would go in deep enough before bottoming on the bullet.

But I'd like to try it the so-called right way, and if the tabs do break, I'll send them right back to LMC and get a refund. I do appreciate the suggestion on license plate nut anchors though. I hope the holes for headlight adjusters are standard size like license plate nut anchors. Thanks..

my local ACE hardware has a selection of nylon "inserts" that push into round or square holes and expand tightly when the screw is inserted into the insert.
maybe try something like that if the license plate inserts are the wrong size ?

Excellent. I just looked at license plate anchors and they looked the wrong size (too small and square vs rectangular like I need). Thanks.

I bought the napa replacement off the help rack. my biggest problem was they did not lock in very good. I did take a small flat blade screwdriver and once in the hole used it to open the smaller inner tabs out till they locked in good. so when you pop them in the hole you have 2 large taps and there should be some smaller ones that you can open to lock it in. sorta locks it both ways push pull thing to hole it in the core support hole.

looking at the pics I can see on the rusty one it has the 4 lock tabs. the new one also looks to have 4 lock tabs. make sure to flex them open to lock in place. I don't think it matters which way they go in as long as all 4 lock tabs catch on the core support. fex/bend tabs out then install into hole and lock into place.

Back tabs are just a small fixed step in the nose on the new ones.

To me then they have to install from the back The big tabs keep it from pulling through little steps keep it from falling out after install.

Not a perfect fit but they work. Tension from the bucket spring is enough to keep them in place - running em on one of mine now.

Okay, thanks up I'm over these stupid things from LMC. I played with one and it snapped very easily, as you predicted. More chinese crap.

Looked them over ten times and the only way the one LMC sent me is push in from front with the ears spreading out which causes most to snap off. I found a different style in the part store that says it’s for 72 through 78 trucks and I gave them a try and while not perfect they seem to be holding for now. They easily fit in and then with a pair of pliers I turned them to where they are locked. Once I started screwing in the headlight bolt they want to twist sometimes so I stop and twist back with pliers. I am waiting until I get the lights adjusted right where I want them before I put everything back on but so far they are holding. I only have one of the ones with the little ears installed and I gave up after that on those ones.

Been there, wasted that money and they've been crap for years. The 79 truck piece is nearly identical to the M body part and I haven't had one of those around here for at least a decade. Sometimes ya just gotta do what ya gotta do to get the thing down the road and yes, this actually worked.
