Quit complaining and install adblocker plus. It's free and works. It costs a good penny to run this site and member contributions won't work.. shruggy

Adblocker does work on this site, so Stumpy is spot on. I tried it years ago and well, lets just say it works now.

He certainly can, he signed up for it. He seems to care more about revenue than the usability of the site. In my view this is short sighted. But his site his calls.

Through various tools I have been able to eliminate every thing but the "purple" ads.

What was most annoying before I was able to fix it was the screen jumping around. It was like trying to play "whack a mole" to open a message.

It may be my imagination but I think traffic is down and some valued contributors no longer come to the site. I don't think it is reasonable or a sustainable business model to expect the users of a site to jump through hoops just to be able to easily use the site.

If it was as me I would charge the guys running a parts business through the classified ads a monthly fee. Most of them are here to sell parts anyway. If they left we would never miss them.

Probably nothing towards your bills!

I would not be opposed to paying for an add free version of Moparts but I don't think that model will work. I am not opposed to advertising on this site but I think selling selling advertising that in intrusive and make the site hard to use is short sighted.

To be clear: I expect no-one to pay my bills but myself.

I think you are 100% correct that a "pay for use" model would never work....most people have become too used to getting "free stuff" on the internet...particularly entertainment/leisure activities.

I also agree that the infolinks thing is a pain in the ass, especially on a phone. But the last time this particular topic came up, I'm pretty sure we were told that "less intrusive" options don't generate enough revenue to keep the engine running, and that the previous google ads we had here had become even more intrusive so what we have now is the lesser of available evils. Maybe it doesn't bug me as much because I don't come here all that much anymore....but that has more to do with some of the truly toxic people than it does the ads. shruggy
