I tried searching the archives but couldn't find an answer to my question. I have a 72 Challenger with a 340,Keisler 5 speed and TTI's. I noticed after putting the headers in the collectors pointed toward the ground, quite a bit. To alleviate this I raised the tail-shaft of the tranny. This didn't remove all the downward angle as the tranny tail-shaft hit the torsion bar cross member in the tunnel area. Is this downward angle normal when a Keisler 5 speed is installed? If I leave the headers this way they will look terrible and get all banged up. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Why would you even post that?

It's been mention in the pass and is normal according to Keisler. TTI has collecters at a slight angle (5 degrees?) to help out with this problem.

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

Yep, mine do the same thing. I ended up lowering the motor about 1/4" which helped the angle a little. I also raised the rear of the trans to about 1/8" from hitting the cross member.

I just went thru this with my Challenger 340/727 combo where my TTi collectors faced toward the ground. My TTi vendor told me to call TTi and I explained what I had and they shipped me two of the 5-6 degree collectors at no charge. I have installed them and now my collectors point back up a touch and now the ground clearance is about 1" better.
The TTi guy said that they usually send these collectors when they know that a Keisler tranny is in the combo. Even though I do not have the Keisler, he did not even question my 727 combo having the same problem. I wonder if they have been running into this problem with either tranny.

I have the same problem in my 70 with big block, keisler and super comps. At first I thought I had the wrong motor mounts causing the front of the motor to be too high, but sounds like it's in the trans. Wish I would have known about those collector things before I got the rest of the exahust done.

VanishPt, How did you lower your motor? Could you post a side shot of your car that shows the headers? Thanks to all who replied.....Ed

Ed,
Per your pm request, I have attached a side picture showing the reducers that came with the headers. you can see that the reducers point downward which lowers the rest of the exhaust. To me it appears that the header flange is pointing downward toward the ground once installed.

Ed,
This is a picture of the 5 degree reducer that TTi sent me. I do not have installed pictures. This part definately helped out the ground clearance.

More importantly, are there any vibration issues associated with the different trans angle?

No pics.
I slipped a 1/8" shim between the k - frame and body and elongated the motor mount holes.

I see the perfect fit is still imperfect.

Tom,

Did you happen to notice earlier in the post the guy saying he had the same problem with his stock
727.

Tom I appreciate the tech post with the article, but the comments are uncalled for. Just because you in another vendors camp which by the way there product does the same. Plus requires more mods to the tunnel. This is the only way to install it with out getting into completely removing the top center of the torsion bar crossmember.

As an adder this article was on one of our 1st ever customers bought his Kit in 02 before some of the vast improvements we have made.
