Never had an issue with John or his transmission, of course I am a low horsepower reverse manual kinda guy...LOL. Been to his old shop numerous times, and finally got to his new shop a couple months ago. He is very busy which means he has lots of customers, that speaks volumes. I have been in the Mopar game for 42 years now, met lots of great people and lots of a$$holes, found mainly how you treat people is how you will be treated...

Seems to have a nice line of products. He would have had a few thou of my money by now if he would have gotten back to me on some questions I had for him.

Here's a message I got the other day regarding Cope.
I bought a transmission that he built for his very good friend. I needed to know what planetaries were in it and the stall of the converter that he built for the guy. It was a package deal.
He said it couldn't help me.

Pretty sure he’s not building converters although he may send specs to builder. Specs on a trans built for a friend.... does not the friend have a build sheet?

Have I bought stuff from John?? Yes... some parts here and there. Have some of the dealings been marginal? Yeah... one. But on the other hand when my trans was down and I was in a pinch he went the extra mile and TRUSTED me to pay when there was a credit card issue and shipped my stuff. I did appreciate that gesture.

He was honest and explained to me that the T400 was actually a better trans for what i was going to do. NOW I KNOW THE MOPAR COMMUNITY WILL HAVE A MELTDOWN OVER THAT>>>>> but it is what it is. He explained to me that he could build a 727 that would live, but it would be more vulnerable in terms of sprag breakage with a small tire no wheelie bar car over a similar built t400. He is the on that directed me to Rossler. The man was easy to talk to and gave me some great advice. AND he made no sale.

Again, give these guys a break. The smaller businesses , they have some real challenges facing them (Covid19). YES i know customer service is number one, but in the racing specialty parts market, you need to have a balance and sometimes the product IS more important than the service. You just have to be patient

Bashing because he is putting crap out there has nothing to do with being a small business. Can't put the right parts in a tranny? Seriously???? And then cop an attitude????

WOW! He was like that with me too once and i was just trying to remind him who i was. He can be very short that's for sure. I just won't bother him any more and i have bought a lot of stuff from him over the years. Last build i used 727specialist and will again. Great guy to deal with and knows his stuff better than Cope anyway IMO.

Several years ago I purchased a locking dipstick for a 904 from Cope.

He was very helpful before the sale. I had a little trouble getting it in and found him to be very helpful and supportive when I called back.

However the number of reports of his behavior recently has me concerned.

I don't mind and can understand someone being grumpy, especially if they have working with racers for years like he has.

However I expect a good quality product and support after the sale.

Yup, pretty much sums things up with John. I believe one of his last statements to me was something about being a good Christian something or other. I'm not a religious person, but the hypocrisy of the statement, after lying to me about my issues was ridiculous, to the least. Sad to hear that it wasn't just me. Jim.

I've known John for a long time, only done business with him once, and that was through a vendor. I will not comment one way or the other.

However, if you want a really great product from someone who won't give you an attitude, call Keith Long-727specialists- 219/718-3542 You won't be sorry.

A few years ago I bought a bunch of parts from John to build a 904. He was helpful before and after. Always returned my calls. Sometime he is a bit short with his answers but I figured he was just busy. I did find it odd he was the only one who answered the phone. maybe he needs to hire someone to help him out.

I have heard there is now someone else answering the phone. I know his son answered a few times in the past, and he blamed the mistakes in my tranny on his “employee”. Jim.
