I seem to be rebuilding carbs and replacing fuel pumps a lot more regularly since New Jersey went to Ethanol gas. Everything from lawn mowers to my six pack cars. Is there a good fuel additive that can combat the negative affects of ethanol?

Been using a Lucas additive in the small-engine stuff for 2 years, seems fine.
I use regular StaBil in the cars' float bowls & gas tanks during winter storage, has worked fine for many years.
I don't add anything to the cars the rest of the time, no problems w/10% ethanol.
Why small engines would be allegedly fussy but the cars fine, I don't know.

Do you have any stations near you that sell 0% ethanol gas? (recreational fuel).

That's ALL I run in my power equipment, bass boat, & 2016 Challenger.

I talked to a small engine repair man who has done his homework. He said that the average person may go to a gas station and get 2 1/2 gallons of gas or 5 gallons and he checked it out and he found that in about 2 weeks you have total separation of the ethanol and know one uses that much gas in your small engine in 2 weeks and sooner then later your are dumping straight ethanol in the tank. No good!!!!! The good news here in Pa. we have quite a few stations that sell ethanol free gas.

NJ is a very left wing state. No ethanol free gas for cars and if you get caught running non-eth fuel, the fines are heavy.

Just from some reading I've done, it seems to me the reduction of sulfur in today's fuels, which provides upper cylinder lubrication, might be a bigger concern than the addition of ethanol so maybe something that addresses both. I know there are products that address both.

Facts are stubborn things.

What are you wanting to put it in? An older car, or small engines?

I stand firmly by seafoam. I have added it religiously to all of my small engine fuel, both 2 and 4 stroke alike. Now, I have been running VP, and/or Truefuel in my 2 stroke stuff for the last 6 years, but my mower gets regular pump high test. I have never had the carb off of any of my stuff. My mower is a "PULLIN" Poulin Pro i bought in 2005, it still starts on the first pull. My toro snow blower was a curb find. I did have to pull the carb on that, but it was free. I sonic cleaned it and just ran the above fuel and still no problems after 8 years.

I've been told Sea Foam does not address the ethanol issue, or actually stabilize fuel that sits. Sta-Bil has their regular, plus they have one especially for addressing the negative effects of Ethanol. I have also used an E-Zoil product before that one of my reps had samples of.

Even if you are in NJ, ethanol-free fuels should not be illegal to run in off road equipment & boats. Hell, new Merc equipped boats have said for years now NOT to use any gas with ethanol - there is a decal right by the fuel fill.

Here you go: https://www.pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=NJ

Here's the E-Zoil stuff I have used before: https://www.ezoil.com/products-phaze-out . Call around to some truck parts stores - many will carry E-Zoil products.

I use Star-tron. I have a snowblower that the red Sta-bil gummed up the carb and no issues since switching to Star-tron. I run recreation fuel in small engines now as well. Still use Star-tron as a stabilizer.

I just don't see that being the case. While I use zero ethanol fuel in my mower I don't bother for the cars. My mower gas jug usually lasts me a whole season. My neighbor down the street uses E10 in his mower. He does zero maintenance, no oil changes, nothing, just gas and mow. His last mower went 5 years before it died, he also keeps it outside lol. In his case at least the ethanol doesn't cause him any problems that he doesn't cause himself. My Jeep and Barracuda both get E10 and they can sit for months and months and I have never seen an issue. My Barracuda is fuel injected and has an ethanol content sensor. From what I have noticed the E content goes down with time but I don't know how accurate that sensor is at low quantities.

It seems like every small engine shop around here has a display of "ethanol failures" right next to the fuel additives. But I have yet to see it cause any problems that weren't greatly enhanced by lack of use or total lack of care.

I still use 0% though, for the extra $1.50 over the mowing season its worth it lol

The primary problem with alcohol in marine gasoline is that the alcohol can pull humidity out of the air. That is usually not a problem in most environments especially when frequent use requires fresh fuel to be added on a regular basis. But in the 100% humidity environment that a boat's fuel tank usually lives in, it can be a big problem. And infrequent use, stale fuel, metal containers, and low fuel levels significantly compound the problem.

In all of our small engines, we started using the gas substitutes a few years ago. It's more expensive than gasoline so we start using it late in the season as a run up to storage in stuff that gets run regularly. In the chain saws and stuff that only get run once in a while, we use it exclusively. Doing that has virtually eliminated our fuel related issues in those items.

I've been using Star-tron for 7or 8 years now, no issues with my carb vehicles or small engines. Here in Canada, hard to find fuel that is completely ethanol free, most people here don't realize that fuel company's here can say ethanol free as long it is below 4 %, that means they can use 3.9 % and say its ethanol free, thanks Federal Government. I use premium fuel in all my carb vehicles and small engines. As for the small engine's, when I take my can to fill, take one of my vehicles that can stand ethanol, put a few liters in the car first then fill my can. Think about it, your getting say 2 gallons in your can, between the switch valve ( almost all our pumps are multi-grade, you chose which you want to pump ) and the nozzle there is around 1 gal of fuel, so in 2 gal you get 1 gal of whatever the last guy pumped and 1 gal of premium that you want, put some in your daily driver first so your can has only the good fuel.

I've been using STA-BIL fuel stabilizer for years with great results. The fuel in CA has been junk for years so I keep it in the cars year round. I've pulled a fuel tank from a car in the past and was able to look inside to inspect after running it for several years and there was zero issues. It protects the carburetors and the entire system

Here in the corn belt ethanol has been here for years. Years ago it would eat the old accelerator pumps but the materials have been changed and it's no longer a problem. The biggest problem is in 2 stroke engines. The oil will separate and not stay mixed in the gas in a short period of time and ruin engine. First sign will be the engine won't run without the choke being closed. Synthetic oil stays mixed better and helps.

I run my small engines dry, never store them with gas in the tank. No issues doing that. No need for additives, premium fuel (?) or anything else.

What I found happening is that the gravity fed fuel bowls would slowly evaporate, leaving behind resin, then the float would open and the tank would fill the bowl and it'd start all over. Eventually the passages in the carb gum up solid and it no longer works. Sometimes you can hose them out with some carb cleaner, sometimes you can use an ultrasonic cleaner and sometimes you just have to buy a new carb.
