So I bought a set of halogens with LED halos from Octane lighting. The wiring will be up upgraded and relays installed. The halos are wired separately as running lights which normally, on the early cars, are the amber lights in the bumpers. These double as the turn signals. I'm planning to do away with those so the halos will be the running lights and turn signals BUT who needs two halos flashing for a turn !! That said, I'd like to wire them in either of these two configurations:

1) both halos are on as running lights but only ONE of the pair flashes to signal a turn
OR
2) both halos are on as running lights but they flash alternately to signal a turn

Any wiring gurus out there that can tell me how to do that ?

Just for the record, using the Halo lights as turn signals when the LED or Halogen headlights are on makes the turn lights difficult to see. The headlights overpower the Halo turn signals, especially if the Halo turn signals were white or yellow, which are probably the only legal colors for front turn signals.

Without two separate power paths through the halo lights, to get both turn functions and running lights from a single power stream, some kind of over ride or lock out would be needed to shut off the running lights individually when the turn light on that side were activated. Gene

Newer models have halos as turn signals - why aren't they overpowered by the headlights ??

Are the halo lights powered by only 1 wire or are they powered by 2? If they are powered by only 1 wire, I'm not sure how you would do it. Maybe there is a controller that you could purchase that would do the switching. If the halos are powered by two wires there should be a "running light" side and a "turn signal" side.

On my 68 Dart, I will be running some "flashback" LEDs in the grill for driving/turn signals. The factory used a two filament bulb...one side was a parking light and the other side was a turn signal. I pulled the parking light wire out of the headlight switch and ran it to the blue ignition wire. This will turn on the "white" running lights whenever the ignitiion is in the "run" position. The video below shows how it is supposed to work. The switching from white to amber is controlled internally. Not sure if any of this helps you at all. Good luck with the install. Post pictures/video if you get it figured out.

Interesting, BURDAR, do you have a company name or link?
Like to get these for our 70 Charger.

Thanks, Joe

I think "Illumin8s" was his company name. It's been years since I bought them. He used to be on some message boards. Not sure if he still sells them or not. He had them for E-bodies and he made me some for my A-body. I'll see if I can find his contact info.

The halos are two wire BUT one will be a ground I presume since there's no other ground - unlike a stock turn signal/running light which is two wire but grounded through the housing and/or a separate ground wire.

a lot of new[er] vehicles turn off the DLR's when using the halo lights for turn signals.
it seems at night, the halo's [or whatever decorative shape is used] are brighter than the headlights.
i'm not sure if this is a factor that is controlled by the BCM [or whatever computer that controls the lights] or the lights have a double "filament" function.
i have been playing around with LED strip lighting for a custom installation, and that will be using strips of two different candle power. i know this is not pertinent to the discussion, but may be similar to how the new[er] stuff works. shruggy

A quick E-bay search came up with this. Sounds like this is what you want. It says you need to use 1 per headlight but looking at the diagram, I think you could use 1 and wire it to both outboard headlights.

that link you provided may be how the OEM's control the halo's.
obviously they don't use this product, but this concept is more than likely used in the computer that controls the lights.
thanks for the link. up i might get one of these and try it out on my project.
